On our recent journey home to Boston from Atlanta PEC I saw that we're going to need something to keep luggage restrained in the rear cargo area. With any kind of cornering or braking my wife's suitcase was sliding around.
What do you guys use? I thought maybe some straps through the child seat anchors, or maybe those cheap trunk cargo nets sold on Amazon for about $11.
I'm not sure what would work best.
There's no luggage stops on the back of the rear seats on our 992. I don't expect to use the seats as seats anyway. I'm thinking of making my own luggage stops out of some nice walnut wood or something. Are the seat backs still constructed with a base of plywood?
This question comes up from time to time; you need some decent tie-downs. Don't use those cheap cargo net, worse than useless in actually securing something like a suitcase.
Porsche doesn't ever refer to that area as for luggage, for good reason. They only ever refer to it loosely as a 'storage' area.
Coco Mats offers a runner mat that lays on the folded down seats... I wonder if something like that can provide enough friction to keep the luggage in place, or at least without sliding around?
Tandy Leather is still in business, and there's a store 30 minutes away. I'm going to go there and see if I can't make something to attach to the child restraint anchors.
So, this is what I ended up doing. The child seat anchors are not ideally placed for this purpose, but I think with more luggage it will serve the purpose. I just want the suitcases not to slide into the back of the seat on a moderate stop. Tandy sells 6' leather straps. The 3/4" size fit best, and I used a 1 1/4" strap for the cross-strap.
No, it's not a Rimowa suitcase ($880). It's only a Longchamp, Paris ($230).
