Just a matter of time before all Porsche’s are either EV or hybrid. It’s coming whether people like it or not. 11 years ago I bought a hybrid. I think until the re-charging infrastructure is fully in place, and you can re-charge to near capacity in under 15 minutes, the hybrid made more sense to me. My next car, for my wife, will be en electric SUV. #1 on her list is the Cadillac Lyriq. Not even taking orders until next Spring.

All that said…many folks i know (> 10) that either have hybrid or all electric cars did so, as their primary reason, was to save on commuting cost. That’s why I got mine, and saved a bundle over the 10 years I commuted in my hybrid. Environmental reasons were secondary, but a worthwhile bonus.

I Agree 100%! Many people have asked me why I am not getting a Plaid or other EV. My answer is that I truly believe this will be my last chance (I keep my "fun" cars for an average of 5-7 years) to own a fully ICE Porsche. If that is actually the case, this car will likely not get retired but will get company in the garage instead.

I still drive my hybrid on a regular basis. After 11+ years, it has over 150K miles. What was hilarious, when I first got the hybrid, I read opinion, after opinion (sort of like what you find on this web site) from people who knew nothing about what they were talking about. The biggest mis-belief was that after 50-75K my hybrid battery would need to be replaced. Total baloney. I still have no problem averaging over 55 mpg, from the original hybrid battery. I bought it to save on gas prices, and it delivered (my previous car also had a turbo, like the 992, and required premium gas…which averages at least $0,50 more a gallon than regular)….so it adds up.

But to each their own. I’d be willing to bet that the next gen 911, or two, is a hybrid….which, if the Porsche engineers can manage the added weight, will be quicker still, off the line.

The 992S is just a blast to drive. Definitely my fun car, and soooo thankful I was able to get one. But my hybrid is my daily utilitarian car. A car that gets me great gas mileage, and don’t have to baby it, or worry about all the crazy chit stuff you read on Rennlist.

Congrats on the 992. I'm looking forward to picking up mine sometime between early December and mid-January. That being said, I just took delivery of a Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. I only had a chance to drive it for a few days in Pennsylvania before having it shipped to California (I'm traveling this week), but I'm thoroughly impressed with the car. I had solar panels installed on my roof to both power the house and the Mach-E. If you're not ready to drop $100,000 plus on a Taycan, give the Mach-E a try. For $62,000 (after the tax credit), it's a great value.

This conversation is only relevant if you can only have one car. I recommend several.

As usual with such advice, "please enclose your check with your suggestion"

Fair, but there are a number of constraints for some that only allow one car (almost) regardless of money, particularly if you live in a densely urban place.

I don't have parking constraints, so I have always had a pickup. Some years it was a $1500 30-year old truck. I've always had some SUV-type variant. At one point it was an older $10k Lexus LX470. Whatever your "vehicle budget", I'd probably have four (or more) that fit into the amount rather than one, especially if it was 992 S money ($150k US).

I'm a rather lucky person, so I currently I have a truck, an SUV, a 911, and both a Taycan CT4S and a PTS 718 Spyder on order rather than one car that is the additive value of those.
