Default $50k dealer markup on targa 4s allocation!

I’m trying to maximize my odds so am on a couple of waitlists for a targa 4. In my spare time I call a dealer a week to see what their waitlist looks like. I found one today that had both a Dec and a Jan build available for a Targa 4s. Amazing! Definitely worth paying for the s upgrade to get something much sooner than I expected. I asked about process, deposit etc. Then comes the catch. A “market adjustment” of $50k! Holy cow. Are people actually paying these?

I was told the same thing from two different stealerships when looking for a Targa 4 GTS allocation. It seems absurd until they find the customer with more money than patience and they pocket a $50k profit on a limited availability asset. I won't pay a premium "as a matter of principle". The again, if I had 25X my assets and disposable income, I suspect my principles would change. I used to say that I would never pay the premium for a first class airline ticket (other than when traveling for business of course). But as I age and get spoiled from my business travel, I find myself re-evaluating (and violating) that principle more than I would have believed 10 years ago.

I will sell you my Targa 4S for $300k and you’d have it immediately.

It looks like the Targa owning ladies and germs are in good shape right now.

Yep. You are hard pressed to find one under $200k. Heritage Edition cars are fetching $300k+.

I can see it on a GTS but for a 4s it is a shocking ask. Particularly since 50 miles away I am first on the waitlist and have been told no ADM.

Wait - you’re first on the list, no ADM and the dealer is only 50 miles away? Why are you still shopping?

Just walk away... Dealers just trying to make as much money while the getting is good. A dealership in NYC did the same thing to me...I am on their list and they called me offering a December build allocation for $40k over sticker.

My dealer told me that Porsche doesn’t allow dealers to mark up new cars. Guess that they can say that since they don’t have any allocations for the foreseeable future.

Honestly, the only car I would consider paying an ADM for would be a GT3 touring in manual with rear seats 😏

I do not understand. I like the cherry red metallic paint, but otherwise the interior of the Heritage is ugly.

The dealer only gets ~1 base allocation a year. Plus I am not a prior client so no idea whether I will hold my spot and whether no ADM will hold. For all of those reasons I think it is worth trying to hedge.

Funny how people celebrate "free markets" until they face the wrong side of a supply/demand crunch and prices spike. This too shall pass and there will be days when inventory languishes on dealer lots again. Enjoy what you have and please stop adding to the problem by having deposits at multiple dealers. That only drives up prices and makes dealers even more greedy.

Who with a net worth high enough to not give a crap about burning $50k would drive a Targa 4s?
