This thread - yOu cAnnOT HaVe dRivER AsISStaAncE aiDS oN a 911, iTs mEanT fOr driVInG" + people thinking that LCA is LKA. If LCA is taking away from your "pure driving experience" then ACC/LKA is probably the devil.

As all options thread end in, to each their own. Maybe its useful for you, maybe its not. I live in a city with very narrow streets and lot of cyclists who tend to materialize out of nowhere. I don't know if LCA detects cyclists but I'd use it as augmenting my own awareness as a safety aid.

LCA is no more a replacement for driver awareness as ABS is for mashing the brake pedal every time or PSM is for punching the gas at every turn..

It sucks Porsche wants $ for it but that's their ethos.

Coming from someone who doesn’t spec nanny options (LKA/ACC). I did spec LCA. It’s the least obtrusive driver aid that you can have. Which I like.

Nice example. I was coming back from my one-year service last week. I put my turn-signal on to change lanes & the mirror lights immediately started flashing rapidly. It caught my attention enough to double check over my shoulder in-time to find a car flying up from the rear.

That experience alone was worth having the option.

Yes, Porsche's system is particularly good at detecting fast approaching vehicles. Mine too has lit up when things with a quick visual check looked clear.

If you think you are such a skilled, flawless driver that you never forget to check your blind spot or never miss anything in your blind spot then, I might suggest that you have a much more significant personal blind spot.

I taped over it when I taught my kids to drive so that they would not learn to be lazy and depend on it, but I am very happy to have it there as a safety backstop when they (or I) still fail to check. None of us are so perfect that we can't use help.

My problem is I am in the next lane before the system can alert me.

In this day and age and in this class of car these items should be standard equipment included in the base price as they are in most run of the mill cars cars. If someone didn't want to use them they can switch them off. Regardless of ones opinions on these items it is a hard fact that since the introduction of ABS, LCA, LKA, ACC the number of road traffic accidents have decreased significantly. Even though cars do have these safety features people should be more mindful of their surroundings, as one person has stated here if you are paying attention to road conditions using your mirrors etc. accidents could be reduced even further.

I have LCA and ACC on my SUV but don't want either on my 992. And I certainly don't want LKA. So I don't want the base price to include options I am not interested in. Same thing for Automatic / PDK transmissions. I would prefer a manual and historically an automatic was an upcharge over a manual until manuals became so rare. At least with the 992 you still get a manual at a discount since it includes Sport Chrono. True some PDK owners don't get it, but those who do pay the PDK upcharge vs the manual.

Plus + 1 for lane change assist. Can’t tell you how many times I went to change lanes and had someone camping in my blind spot. I’m frequently traveling through the city though. These cars have relatively tiny side mirrors and relatively high belt lines (compared to 997 and earlier). They look awesome, but they’re not as easy to see out of vs earlier cars. First thing I really noticed going from my 996 to a 991. The rear quarter windows are useless.

Reminds me of the late 1970s when right side mirrors became standard in the US. and there were complaints about extra weight and aero drag.

Or seatbelts that made it ‘hard to move out of the way’ in an accident.

I can barely see anything out of my rear quarter in a cab. If I move the passenger seat forward more then the passenger is uncomfortable.

With almost ever Lamborghini I've driven the blind spot was so bad you had to sometimes use the "I see a hole ahead of me and have more power than most other cars" method and had to make your way into the next lane that way.

Do you truly understand the question? This is not about lane keep assist. It is about the small warning in the side view mirrors to assist you in making sure there is not a vehicle in your blind spot. Do you always act this rudely (aka, why be such an a**)? You must not have many friends.

I drove a 992 for the first time last weekend. I found the location and brightness of the LED's for the LCA much harder to notice than those on my Macan which are on the base of the mirror. Having the LED's in the glass on the outermost side of the mirror makes it harder for your peripheral vision to pick it up.
