The point of LCA is to assist with blind spot monitoring, not replace the practice of looking over your shoulder before changing lanes or common sense.

It’s just strange how one can be so passionately against an unobtrusive driving aid like it’s some hinderance to the driving experience.

Edit
Confused LCA with LKA. Thank you @slwong23

Do still think that LCA is somewhat worthless.

The 911 does not need LCA.

A Cayenne or Panamera, maybe.

A small-ish coupe like the 911? Nope.

If you adjust your side mirrors properly there are virtually no blind spots.

TL;DR ... LCA on a 911 is a luxury, not a necessity.

Have you had LCA in a previous car? Given that most of us have driven many years without it, I would’t go as far as saying that LCA is a must have, but it’s also an option I would add every time without hesitation, esp on a dd, so I voted yes.

It seems many in this thread who strongly oppose optioning it are mixing it up with LKA, which is pretty amusing.

I didn't vote . I even have a 14 year old car which lacks it and feel that to some extent it just promotes laziness . On the other hand insurance companies love it , it is useful to have, and upon resale there are some buyers where a car that lacks it becomes a deal breaker . So as you see there are pro and con and there is not a right or wrong answer .

Of the multiple cars I've had that came with LCA, the one on my (991.2) is the best positioned of them all for being noticeable without being distracting. To me.
When I ordered my S550 DD, there was something I can't remember now that required I get the entire "safety" suite or I couldn't get heated armrests (or something like that). I turned LKA off in day 2 and didn't realize adaptive cruise control couldn't be turned off. I despise both of those "upgrades" but think LCA is fine to have.
I do like the surround cam also.

LCA is a great last minute safety check when merging left in heavy traffic. I ordered it in the current 992 and the previous Cayman.
LKA is a disappointment and error prone in the 992. It works reliably in my wife's Mustang.
Better yet is a convex driver side mirror with LCA. It eliminates the visual blind spot.

"Amusing" is one way to describe it . . .

If you were one of the people that thought LCA helps keep your car in the lane, then PLEASE BACK AWAY FROM THE PORSCHE! This car is not for you . . . somewhere out there is a nice Hyundai Accent with your name on it . . .

My wife’s LEXUS has LCA, LKA and adaptive cruise control.

IMHO the only useful feature is LKA.

I hate adaptive cruise control 🤬🤬🤬

If you have Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), you get improved PDK programming in auto mode, because it uses the traffic in front of you to make shifting decisions. It's frankly almost worth it just for that.

As for using ACC itself, I find it handy in stop/go traffic and through construction zones. It's pretty awesome for both and an underrated option overall.

It’s one option I would have liked on my MT car but of course they don’t offer it. Some say that it’s pointless in a manual but if you spend much time on busy freeways with traffic speed varying 10-15mph constantly you’ll know what I mean.

You said the magic words - “blind spot monitoring.” Granted the 992 has great visibility, but the system does have some merit for even the most attentive driver in situations where something ends up in a blind spot or if someone starts merging into the open lane from the other side after you’ve checked.

LCA is OK - I'm old school, normally I'm already looking in my mirror when the light blinks - I'm already there to see it confirm what I'm seeing Should be free.
LKA - waste IMO, I've seen videos - it doesn't seem to work very well from what I have seen
ACC - nice option that is standard on my Golf R - but not necessary. Definitely not paying Porsche the ridiculous amount of money they want for it - besides the Cyclops eye is ugly.

One small point, LCA doesn't have an associated audio signal like say Mercedes do. In our Mercedes the mirror displays a yellow light when there is a vehicle beside you, and red if you start to move towards that vehicle or put your indicator / turn signal on. When it shows red there is also a very audible warning sound made. It's a much better version of LCA than Porsche implement.
