I took my 19 month old 992 to Porsche yesterday for its first oil change. They did a full inspection and changed the brake fluid too.
I turned up at 9.30 am, borrowed an office and their wi-fi for 2 hours, did some work made some calls paid £750 and left all done. Next service @40,000 miles.
Nothing turned up, the car is perfect. They said mine was the highest mile car under their care
Spent some time talking to the technicians. They say the healthiest cars are the ones that get loads of miles put on them and are serviced regularly.
No flat batteries, no flat spotted tyres, no exhausts rusting from the inside out etc.
I bet there must be some 992s out there that have loads more miles?
I've got more than 21k miles on my 992 C4S and I'll cross 23k miles sometime this weekend.
First oil change was at around 8k miles (August 2020) as I was getting ready to embark upon a 3800 mile road trip. Second service was 10k miles later (May 2021) per Porsche's (PCNA) recommended service schedule. Third service/second oil change will likely be before the end of the year. It's true. The best thing that you can do for a 911 is drive it. The techs and my service center said the same thing.
The service intervals recommended by Porsche (PCNA aka USA) are every 10k miles, or one year, whichever comes first. For low mileage folks, you don't drive it, you still need to bring it for service.
For the UK, it's 20k miles and every two years, though they do recommend a quick annual inspection. For a guy who grew up with 3k mile oil changes, that feels like a long time, but that's what Porsche recommends in the UK. Given your use of GBP, I presume that you're in the UK.
Not that mine is with highest miles (11k), but - I'm glad to read this thread and also feel that these cars are meant to be driven. Commuting everyday i was starting to be a little concerned about the highway miles i put on this car, but then why did I pay all this money? To drive it, enjoy it. Take care of it, drive it, and it will be a great car.
Yes indeed, If I ran mine up to 400,000 miles I would be very happy.
Cannot imagine a better way to clock up 400,000 miles.
I have often thought about mileage. I always look at the odometer in taxis at the airport.
I often see run of the mill taxis with 500,000 miles up, still on the original engine and box and driving OK.
Not point in saving it for the next guy!
Reminds me of the Ford taxis we used to have in Melbourne. Their diff's would get noisy around 200,000km's, it was a routine maintenance task just like an oil change. Some of those cars did well over a million km's on one engine.
