Default Launch Control- How many miles did you wait..

Not sure if this has already been hashed out; but did not see much from my brief search. Just wondering how many miles you all waited until unleashing Launch Control? Owner's manual (US) of course says to keep it under or around 4K and 2000 miles before full on. Not sure I can't wait that long.

Launch control is boring, and overrated.

Go to PECLA. You’ll do it a handful of times before a slalom course to get it out of your system. Have yet to do one in mine.

they have a launch strip which is a lot more fun than the slalom. Should hit 110-125mph depending on the trim.

anyway, never did it in my own. There’s never been an occasion where it was both interesting and safe on a public street. Car goes damn fast 0-lawful limit without launching it.

FWIW the folks at PECLA (not engineers, just salespeople/driving instructors) told me the first 1k miles of break-in are for the car, the second 1k miles are for the driver to get comfortable with the car so they don't kill themselves and sue Porsche.

To be perfectly honest; in 6 months and a bit over 5,000 miles . . . . I've yet to try the Launch Control Mode, even once. A few, brief, rolling full throttle accelerations, of course, that I found rather nicely exhilarating. That said, I'd want a bit of clear road with a fully warmed up car to try the Launch Mode, the former isn't really an option that presents itself with any frequency here in the Los Angeles area. Someday . . . .

Had car 2 years and never used launch function. If I was 17 again, I probably would have by now.

I was probably a year into 992 ownership before I gave it a go. I’ve used it once on the winter performance tires and just a couple of times on the summies. Regardless of the tires, great initial bite as you’d expect from launch control in a 911. To be honest, by the time that I got around to doing it, I was so accustomed to the acceleration of my 992 that there wasn’t much “new” to the experience per se. It’s fine and sure, it’s quick, but there’s much more to the 911 experience than being quick in a straight line.

My car's a manual so in that sense I have nothing to add to this question, but up at PECLA I've tried the PDK and launch is always on the agenda. It's boring. Yeah, so a 992 is quick off the line but really who cares? Did it once, no twice if you include their carousel piece, and that was more than enough.

Never used it on the two 991's I owned. Used the 20 second power button once while rolling when a DA was trying to keep me from merging on to an Interstate. Didn't work out so good for the DA.

I think things are pretty equal between transmissions when actually driving. When you mash the pedal, you go.

I find myself using that boost button quite a bit on the highway. That way, I don’t have to switch driving modes for authoritative overtaking. I can keep it lazy Normal/Auto and just hit the button when I want the car to have a little more squirt.

It's a marketing gimmick, IMO.
I ordered a manual transmission. In deference to the clutch and drivetrain I won't be doing any drag races.

Did anybody suggest otherwise?
