Uh, no, it’s not a marketing gimmick. It’s a real thing. Just because you don’t use something doesn’t mean it’s a gimmick.

By your logic, manual transmission itself is a gimmick. It isn’t necessary in a sports car and actually hinders your performance. It exists for the soul purpose of driver engagement and enjoyment. Why would that be any less of a gimmick than LC? To the contrary, LC actually enhances your performance, so I would argue that it’s NOT a gimmick, while MT actually is.

LC is a marketing gimmick, primarily designed to get a low 0-60/0-100 time for the brochures and for the journo's to talk about. As per this thread the majority of owners hardly ever use it, if ever. But sure, if the other 10% enjoy it then all good. Job done.

Ive used it twice now in my 5K miles old 2020 911 S. Both times where when I took my neighbor for a ride along to show him what Porsche 911 offered as a whole. We did two launches back to back. First one we did threw him into the seat and his eyes got big as silver dollars. He immediately said... "again! again!"

I did it a 2nd time. Drove us home and he ordered a 911 the next day! True story.

so many responses on here about their opinion/preference on launch control; the OP is just asking how long to wait before attempting it...

Correct, my real question I guess should have been how many miles did you have on before you let it rip and hit the red line!

Redline 2,000 miles. I gradually increased revs between 1,000 and 2,000 miles so by 1900 miles I was already around 7,000 rpm.

LC - 3500 miles

Thus it’s NOT marketing gimmick. Just because too many folks bought a high performance sports car to show off at bingo while driving well below the speed limit doesn’t make the car’s performance features a “gimmick”. It’s as much a “gimmick” as any other feature that gives it an edge over its rivals. People pay attention to 0-60 times as much as any other features, we don’t all buy this car to polish it 13 times a week and take pictures of it.

Made it 1k miles before LC.

Addressing all the never used it people, just because you are boring doesn’t mean we all should be too.

the fact that the car allows it should tell you all you need to know. these days with computer controlled e-everything, it would be trivial to lock it out. they don't. that's your answer.

I could care about launch control as a quantifiable metric to tell me how fast the car is…I already know it’s very fast.

However, I plan to do it a handful of times before I’m out of warranty. If anything should break as a result…let it be then, while still under warranty.

I would guess that since my 9 months of ownership I’ve done perhaps 10-12 launch controls.

I plan to now do them far more rarely, perhaps 1-2 times per year.

I don’t see why this pdk can’t easily handle that

Um....everyone on this thread realizes the factory tests and redlines the motors before installation into the body, right? Enjoy from day 1!

seems very few are aware. the vast majority of folk baby their cars for a few k out of fear of breaking it. it's a never ending conflict - hundreds of posts - maybe thousands - in the "break in" threads.
