I loved my 993TT, but I also loved my 981 Spyder. My Spyder had the Fabspeed GT420 package with upgraded plenum, headers, cats, exhaust and tune. I like the idea of having a NA engine along with the Turbo.
While the 981 with a GT420 package holds a special spot in my heart, I think this duo has to be my all-time favorite.
Maybe nuts... but I'm starting to lean in a very unexpected direction....
Daily: 992 C4GTS MT coupe -- So I can have a 2+2 daily driver with manual, with a set-up focused enough for the occasional track day. Yes, a lateral move given I have a C4S already, but I really want to get the interior right and the GTS does add some extra sizzle.
Fun: Spyder -- Adds the diversity of convertible and mid-engine, and I really think it's the most beautiful current production car in the world under $500K. Order with MT and LWBS to add extra GT flair and specialness, and get the gearing mods done. Order both cars in the same color (maybe Chalk, which I'm loving on my C4S, or perhaps Guards Red (son's favorite) or GT Silver (wife's favorite)).
BONUS: This also leaves budget for a 964 C4, which I am thinking I could resto-mod with Kelly Moss into a Safari-style car so I have a winter / bad weather "fun" car (also painted in in same color) to round out the trio.
My thinking here is the Turbo is a bit aggressive looking for a DD and the PDK doesn't have much appeal. The GT3 is kind of wasted given only 3-4 track days per year, and as others have said the two 992s probably doesn't offer enough difference.
I went with 992 Targa 4S manual + 991.2 GT3 PDK.
Two cars feel completely different. Good in their own ways.
Turbo still feels like an all-in-one combo - which I never like such idea in a car; extra power is useless for the street, not as visceral on the track. Great if you can ‘only’ have one 911.
You will not be happy with anything else. When my kids were small, I was able to take all 3 of them in the Cab to school. Booster seats are not the problem, but the reverse incline of the rear seats is the problem with cabs. Getting a full car seat in the back is hard with buckets, and easier with the top down.
Decided on TTS coupe. I snagged a last minute allocation. My build locked Tuesday and car is expect in late Nov / early Dec.
I have my name down for a Touring and a Spyder. I’ll probably buy both and keep whichever feels like it better rounds out the “set.”
Keeping my eyes peeled for a 964 C4, ideally in a very unusual color. Plan is to send that to Kelly Moss for a Safari style restomod/winter toy to alternate with the Spyder/GT3 every 6 months.
I have an air-cooled ‘87 Carrera currently, and will be taking delivery of a manual 992 C4S Coupe this week. For me, this is the perfect combo. The ‘87 is an analog masterpiece, and an entirely different experience than any of the other more modern variations on your list. I’m hoping my 911 dream is satisfied once I add the 992 this week (though there is still a small part of me that wants to add a 993 at some point
Beautiful '87. I had one I good weather DD from '94-'01 in Venetian Blue. Is that Venetian as well?
Please please post many pics of your AG/Truffle car when it arrives, especially interior showing what's brown and what isn't.
And congrats!
