Best two 911 combo?
For modern 992s, I feel like the combos that work best are a Targa GTS + Touring, or Turbo + Winged GT3. You can't have a Turbo and Touring because you can't have your DD looking more aggressive than your Track Car. The Targa + Touring was my original plan when I put down the deposit for the Touring.
My issues with the Targa vs the coupe (which I've since discovered) are:
1) you lose a considerable amount of (already minimal) backseat room in the Targa as the seats are narrower and more upright
2) you lose top anchors which are required for front facing car seats and high-back booster seats (for kids aged 2-4, which will be a consideration for me for at least 4 more years)
3) you lose the ability to mount a roof rack (I kind of fancy the idea of driving my 911 with my bike and/or roof box on the roof to races and weekend getaways)
4) my Targa GTS build is basically only ~$10K cheaper than my "sensible" TT build... totally different cars and the Targa GTS is almost certainly the rarer of the two, but the Turbo just feels like a lot more car for the money with the 3.8 engine and additional functionally of more useable backseats + roof rack capabilities.

he's a YouTuber for click bait and he's wrong.
the gearing isn't nerfed to avoid cannibalizing the 911. It's extremely similar to the GT3 gearing. It's longer than ideal because PDK can and does nerf your throttle input for fuel efficiency and noise regulations in other ways.
It's just what all the marques do nowadays with the MT.
Try driving a GT500, Camaro Zl1 1LE and heck even the 911 MT is geared long (not as long as the 718 but still longer than the PDK equivalent).

it's geared this way because it has to be, and the manual gt3 is geared almost identically.
you can complain about the low end torque, which is a legit issue, and the gt3 doesn't suffer nearly as much with a more powerful engine, but this idea that Porsche nerfed the 718 gearbox to avoid cannibalizing the 911 is fantastical conspiracy theory crap. Come back and ask why the engine only goes to 414 or why the rear suspension is so mediocre and we can discuss the cayman curse.

For me, just having a base 992 or 991.2 would be nice as a second car that I could daily driver while still get 9/10 of the higher trim 911 experience. But I’d also consider a Spyder too. I think the thing for me is how resilient that top is since I think I’d need to use it due to how weather/seasons change in VA as compared to someplace like Southern CA. I don’t mind the manual roof at all, but it’s not really insulated like a regular convertible top. I would obviously drive it top down as much as possible but would also like to enjoy warmth in winter and cool when it’s almost 100. You can’t really drive top down in those scenarios.

I have a 992 C4S PDK and 718 GT4 MT
I think this is a great combo if you want to stay within Porsche
2 different engines, 2 different great transmissions , two different chassis
regarding the gearing on GT4/Spyder. I don't consider it an issue at all

After having a 981 Spyder I would say a 992TTS and 718 Spyder would be a great combination.
My 992TTS will be here in November and the GM at my dealer told me my GT3 Touring allocation should be available within the year. My initial thoughts were to drive the Turbo until the Touring came in, but knowing me...
...I'm now thinking either A or C
