992 owners rejoice in massive cope in this thread. Both 992 gear selectors are appalling, but at least the GT3 shifter is sequential. Porsche took a step back with the 992 interior. Design AND quality, no doubt about that. Just as they did in steering feel from 997 to 991. 3 steps forward, 1 step back. Accept the terms, don't lie to yourself and move on. Take a good look around. Cheaper materials. Conflicting surfaces. Abundance of cheap black plastics, piano black and all. Plus look at the door panel. Euughh!

The 992 shaver completely ruins the car for me. I can't even appreciate the new TTS because of that ridiculously inadequate looking nub in a sea of emptiness.
I'm doing 3 pedals in my 992 so it's a non issue for me, but I cannot stand the standard shifter.

991.2 is pretty much perfect interior.
Right mix of tech and analog without going overboard. It will age really welll.
The 992 big screens will look out of place in 10yrs when tech will be on higher level with much better resolution.
991 was a huge leap over 997 in interior quality, tech, design etc. I do miss the manual handbrake!

I want the 991/Macan console back, the Homelink where God mandated it be, a working stick, priority real time coding of the PCM, my seat belt to adjust, a rear wiper with water, I want it to remember my settings (my 2008 Touareg does that), I want FAL to disengage when the engine is shut off not put the onus on the user having read page xxx of the manual, gauges that you can see if not remove them, and so on. Maybe a couple of minutes with the design engineer(s) to share my take on their brilliance when used daily...

The 991 was dated the day it was released, as they essentially carried over turn-of-the-century 997 design & tech. Porsche decided to get with the times with the 992. Thankfully, we finally have an interior that matches the six-figure price figure we pay for it.

The looks maybe but functionality sucks. I spent 9 years in high energy physics at CERN in real time programming and networks coding for the ALEPH Large Electron Positron Collider experiment. If I had coded like they did the PCM I would have been fired. So the 991 was dated when it was released, maybe; but it was functional.

If youd like to have 30 buttons to press & call that functional, then you should probably own a 991; or maybe a C8. The younger generation that has kept up with technology has no issues navigating the 992 PCM. Its pretty simple. Homelink included.

Yep I like pressing buttons I can see not something buried in a PCM 3 levels down and waiting 90 seconds for it to boot so I can exit my garage because three irrelevant apps still haven't finished loading. I can navigate fine what I can't stand is a bad implementation, lack of ergonomics (so what if you can't see the outer two gauges or the seat belt cuts into your neck or your rear wiper doesn't have a water sprayer or it can't remember the heated seat or steering wheel setting...), not everything labelled "progress" is good.

I have no issues setting a hot key for homelink & pressing once on the screen. Literally takes me one second to open my garage.
Maybe in 40 years I can start complaining about technology.

I agree. Hotkey/homelink. Boom. Done.
Initially i disliked the 992 exterior and interior redesign.
Both have become endearing to me now though. Once you see the exterior in person it all makes sense.
As for the interior…. I hate tv screens in cars -BUT- the dials are so well layed out and mimic analog mostly so I immediately felt comfortable with them. Great callback to aircooled porsche instrument layout. If you can’t see the fuel gauge, tilt your head 3 degrees and its visible. Clean. Easy.
My big suprise is how well the infotainment screen integrates into the dash. When the driving gets intense i hit the other hotkey and the thing disappears. I love that.
My negative is the shaver. I think it looks fine. Better than a big **** (i don shift with gear changers, prefer paddles but sport plus is better than i can be) and i would make it smaller and out of solid aluminum. AND I WOULD GET RID OF THAT ISLAND IT SITS ON WITH THE DUST COLLECTING MOAT. Its overstyled.
Im ok with the piano black. Its not that big and cleans easily.
Overall i love this car.

I prefer the 992 interior to the 991. The older interior was already dated looking when the 991.2 came out. The shiny chrome bits and glossy carbon are old fashioned.
Interior quality feels about the same - I admit the steering wheel and mode selector **** in the 991.2 is nicer. Also the seatback pull to fold the front seats is absolutely terrible in the 992.
All that said, I think the 992 interior is a cooler looking design. I don't really think much about the gearshift. The car is an automatic.
