Default sport mode

can you set up the 992 so that SPORT MODE is the default when you start the engine? I am trying to find a way to disable the START/STOP function PERMANENTLY...... the dumbest damned "feature" I have ever seen!

I always am amused by those annoyed and irritated they have to push a button.

It puts my struggles with Stage 4 cancer into perspective.

No. It always starts in ‘Normal’.

T-Design makes a module that does the trick. Not sure if the 992 version is out.

Step back from the all caps ledge. First world problems. No car that I have owned has allowed me to set a sport mode / suspension mode / or other similar settings as the default. Just think of it like a pre flight checklist.

It just seems strange that Porsche doesn't have a "work around" for the start stop OR a preferred driving mode. My BMW was easily programmed to accomodate both!

I bet this is all California's fault.

Auto start/stop in my BMW M8C GC will stay disabled with the button on the console and does not revert back to enabled when the car is stopped and restarted (no matter what driving mode you're in). I believe that this is the case with all current M cars. However, having to rotate the Sport Chrono **** to do this each time I start my 992 has just become a habit and not really bothersome.

It starts in normal to get the oil warmed up. Add the automatic start stop button to your Home Screen. It’s not a big deal.

How does 'Normal' mode warm up the oil faster than 'Sport' mode? I figured it would be the opposite since Sport mode favors lower gears and higher RPMs

Normal mode is more conservative. You should let the oil warm up before subjecting it to Sport and Sport Plus. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. 👍

I hear you (and am not looking to start a debate on this topic since I admittedly know very little about it myself), but this seems to fall into a similar category as the debate on break-in miles. I seem to recall a few discussions on this board suggesting that it's better to allow the car to warm up in anything other than Normal mode since that mode tends to allow the engine to lug at low RPM's, which is never good but especially when the engine is cold. Again, not debating here as I'm not knowledgeable enough on this topic to contribute anything authoritative; rather, just passing along what others on these boards have (rather convincingly) posted on this topic.

I too drive in normal until the car is warmed up. Just takes a couple minutes.

hard break in guy here - you always need to let your motor warm up before giving it the beans. no exceptions.

that said, if you go to sport cold and drive with care / slowly, it’s no diff from normal.

your average person, though, which is the target of any general guidance, goes to sport and floors it immediately because they’re being “sporty”.

someone like you who ponders the meanings of such things, you’re good.

At some point after MY15, Porsche took away the ability for a persistent Auto Start/Stop set to off. Never dug into why, but my guess is due to emissions. AFAK, Sport mode was never something that would stay on persistently, always needs to be switched on after each start up.

Agree that its a little annoying that you can't turn it off permanently on your own, but quickly becomes a non-issue and one more minor thing to adjust before taking off, not so dissimilar to clicking that seatbelt, adjusting your climate control, etc.
