Highway Driving & Break-In?

I promise I'm not trying to get another break-in squabble started here. The situation I'm facing: I have just over 500 miles on my C2S, and I am considering taking a road trip from TN to TX and back. I understand highway miles at the same RPM are not recommended during break-in. Bearing this in mind: Have any of you driven your 992 during the break-in period and been able to vary the revs without it feeling like water torture over the course of several hours and hundreds of miles? I'm imagining just manually up/down shifting every couple of minutes between 6th/7th/8th gears, with a few trips down to 5th.
Any thoughts there might be on how to best go about this should I choose to take the trip will be much-appreciated!

I did pretty much all my break-in miles on secondary roads, where curves and slowing down for towns naturally caused RPM and gear selected to vary considerably. If you have PDK, only use manual changes so you can control revs. If you stay off anything resembling an Interstate you can break it in properly and quickly.

I took mine on long 100+ mile trips up mountain roads & back several times in manual mode.

you want to run it up and down the rev range, including over 4k rpm - once the motor has reached operating temp. while you're at it, you might google how to bed your brakes properly as well.

Avoid too much cruise control and you should be fine.

A road trip (minimizing constant speed on highways) is the best way to break in a 911! Torture is: driving a 911 on a twisty back road trying to stay below 4k RPM.

I now have 800 miles in my breaking in period. I prefer back roads mainly because of the excitement, but also (very important)....I’ve found that most of the time (with other cars), when I get a rock chip on the window, or on the paint...it’s always when I am driving on the highway and cars /trucks cutting in and out of lanes. And yes, getting your car wrapped will help protect the paint, but these films are NOT completely impervious to rocks, and will show the road chips you get, even if the paint is untouched....so, until you get the area re-wrapped, you will notice.
For 90% of my driving, I try to keep it at, or just under 4K RPM. Every now and then, I kick it up to 5-6K, but only for short periods of time. A good buddy of mine who has owned many Porsche’s said that even more important than keeping the RPM’s a bay, is the break in for the pads/rotors...so he advised when I brake, to brake firmly, if not occasionally hard.
Good luck.

As others say vary your revs, but also load up the engine every now and then to bed the rings in properly and avoid glazed bores. Not so much as to lug it, more 1/2 throttle or so in the 2,000-4,000 rev range. Least that’s my practice.

Drove 350+ miles on delivery at Anchorage Harbor, highway driving in MANUAL (8 speed PDK) and never over 4K. Don't overthink the issue, if it was that critical there'd be a 1,200 page warning in the manual and the "Good to Know". Enjoy the ride.

I agree it’s good to vary rpm while keeping it under 4k. But I wouldn’t worry too much. I picked my car up at PEC-ATL and cruised 500 miles home without stopping. Whenever I would slow down or speed up to pass someone is when the revs varied but I was on cruise control at 80mph for a good 1-2 hours of the 7 hr drive. It’s very hard to keep thinking about varying revs constantly on a 7hr drive. It will drive you insane. Just drive the car.

OP - I was in the same exact boat after delivery and took the trip. As others have stated, I did try to vary revs some by changing speed, occassionally downshifting a gear or two and lightly accelerating, etc. ACC also naturally varies speed if there's other cars on the road as well.
I'd take the trip, make a decent effort to vary revs, and not worry about it.

Another important aspect of a good break in are heat cycles. Hot hot hot engine. Full cool down. Rinse & repeat.
It would be great if you did an earlier oil change before your road trip. At the very least, do upon your return home.
Have fun and enjoy.

Drive the car, don't use cruise control and the revs will never be constant. If you did a factory pickup in Europe you would not worry about it. Just drive.

Funny, My 2021 Cayenne GTS manual doesn’t say anything about varying the engine speed, just to keep the rpm below 4,000 for the first 2,000 kms. Does the 992 manual read differently?
