Default 992 Now or Wait

Waiting for a July allocation for a 2022 base Carrera. SA called and offered me a very similar optioned 2021 that is in transit to the dealer. 2 main options that are missing on the 2021 are ACC and Sports Chrono. Both are being sold for MSRP. I don’t care about resale and the car will not be tracked.

What would you do?

Now

Nobody knows what 2022 is going to be like. I consider Sport Chrono a must have option, but if you want a 911 now, get it now. You can always trade it in for another one.

Yeah the Sports Chrono is the sticking point - can live without ACC.

Wait. The Sports Chrono by itself is worth it.

Both options are "Must Have" for me, so I'd wait. FWIW, until I had ACC I'd not have thought of it as a "Must Have", but now that I've had it and come to use it, I'd not want a car without it. Not having Sports Chrono is easily a deal killer.

Same as all the others... ACC doesn't really matter for me, Sport Chrono does and if you are purchasing will also effect resale...

Wait.

That both available cars are lacking SC could be a reason your dealer has them to offer to you in the first place.

Wait. A July allocation should deliver by October. Not a long wait. I would not get a car without sports chrono. ACC is up to you.

I assume these are dealer specced cars? I would wait for chrono, you'd regret settling.

Sidenote: These dealers really need a lesson in how to spec cars sometimes. My dealer is just as guilty and they do some puzzling things with inventory cars sometimes. For example, speccing a Carrera T with PDK and sunroof or a Macan S in Carmine with paint matched wheels!

I am in the same exact situation. Except mine does have the sport pack but is missing ACC + heated steering wheel. The car is actually relatively discounted (>5%). Since it’s coming soon, I think it might be worth getting. If I were in your shoes, I would skip. The clock is stupid but Sports Plus is worth it.

I took a long time configuring my car (which I should received in mid August). I deliberately kept ACC out (I didn't like the looks of the sticking camera), and SC. The reason I kept SC out is because it won't bring me ANY benefits since I don't track it, while enforcing the dynamic engine/gearbox mounts. I wanted a car with as little problematic modules as possible, and I know that for sure in the future replacing these dynamic mounts will be much costlier than the good old rubber ones. I still can't find any proper justification for Sports Chrono. If I'm going on track, the track will time my laps with much more information than SC. Is it for the 20-second power bump? How often and how aggressively will I be taking over? It's not like I'm constantly driving on 2-way streets filled with Ferrari's. Is it for the dedicated button? Tbh the car is plenty fast for the streets, and to switch between Normal and Sports mode I can use the configurable button on the steering wheel. Even all these driving modes, I'm not particularly crazy about. It's fine that they're there, but I've been driving cars since the 80's and vehicles always did just fine with a single driving mode.

I'd say go for it right now, the wait isn't worth it. I've been waiting for my car since March and every week feels like forever.

The biggest benefit for me with SC is the overboost function. I use it on most of my drives. Press and all systems are at their peak performance instantly. It’s a great function.
