Default Radio Use

Maybe I am missing something or maybe I am stupid. Generally speaking I always use Sirius XM radio when I am in the car. I turn the car off don't touch the radio. Evert time I start the car the radio comes fine, by the time I put my seat belt on put the car in gear the radio turns off. I have to go to my home screen and touch the radio button or media button and bring up the radio and then it starts playing. Anyone else have the same issue or know what I am doing wrong to cause this to happen.

Do you have and use car play? If so, this happens to me all the time. Once carplay connects (especially if you have waze on your phone) it overrides the radio but doesn’t play anything.

I do have car play, I do not have "waze". Do you know if there is a way to stop this from happening, it is very annoying.

Not that I know of. I have been trying to find a solution to this issue on all my cars for a while now.

My "solution" (and it's not an easy one for me) is to be patient. Since I know it is going to happen every time that Apple Car Play comes up, I go to Media (which brings back my music) and then hit the Car Play icon again.

Not ideal by any means but it does work. If anyone finds a more elegant solution, I would love to know what it is.

+1 - Why use AppleCarPlay if you are not using Waze and are using the radio. Just deactivate AppleCarPlay so car doesn't look for it when you turn on car.

If you have CarPlay enabled, you can disable it in the device manager by reenabling Bluetooth.

Not sure I follow? You can disable CarPlay by re-enabling Bluetooth? Did you mean to say by turning off the Bluetooth? In my case, CarPlay seems to connect through the Porsche’s built in WiFi.

For other reasons (I use my iPhone as the Hot Spot for the PCM) I have Bluetooth shut off in CarPlay on my iPhone and Apple CarPlay only connects to the car via the USB Cable.
I do not have any competition issues between CarPlay and Sirius. They both play well with each other in my C2S set up as I have it.

This is probably one of the least understood features of Porsche’s latest PCM since it’s so poorly explained in their manuals.

Think of BT as both a connection and a profile, and CarPlay as a profile that uses the BT connection of your iPhone, so you can see where the limitation lies. (There are actually two BT profiles, but let’s not confuse things even more.)

In your device manager while running CarPlay, you will see a Carplay symbol under both the “Phone” and “Link” for your phone and both symbols are likely green. To disable CarPlay, tap the CarPlay symbol under “Phone” and your PCM will toggle to the BT profile; the CarPlay symbol under Link will go white and the CarPlay symbol under Phone will change to a green BT symbol, likely with a small superscripted number to indicate the BT connection number since the PCM can be connected to more than one phone.

Tap on the BT symbol for you desired phone and you will toggle back CarPlay for that phone. You will also probably see “connection to iPhone lost”, meaning the PCM is no longer using the BT connection.

I’m not sure if keeping one or the other configuration when first getting into the vehicle is tied to Porsche’s memory package as I can’t find any details in the manual. Might be worth storing it to your key after disabling CarPlay and seeing what it defaults to.

You need to actually shut off the stereo so that it does not come on automatically.

Thx. Not in a million years would I have figured this out. How convoluted can you get?

Thank you all for your input. Bottom line it is the craziest system I have never had this problem with any other car. For sure the PCM leaves a lot to be desired. Some of you made mention to the owners manual that is another thing that is deficient with Porsche it is one of the most poorly written owners manual I have ever seen.

I seem to have found a work around on My Home screen I have some radio options favorites etc. I find that if when I switch the car off and I am on the Home Screen when I start the car again the radio is still on the last station I had been listening to.

Same here, plus I don’t like getting in the car with music on. I just go straight to the devices, set my phone up first since it also may be confused which phone (wife or mine) to connect, then I select my media.
