Smile Get the 992 with a manual

The manual on the 992 is glorious and will probably be discontinued very soon as all development money will go to electric. Im sure this has been said before but just wanted to emphasize how amazing that clutch and transmission are. If you are looking to do less work and better performance get an electric car. Thats all

Unpopular opinion incoming... the 7-speed that Porsche offers in the Carreras is a less than awesome manual. The gear ratios are such that you really don't get to stir the gears very much on a twisty backroad. Clutch feel and engagement are typically excellent Porsche, but sadly, it's not the best transmission choice for this car. Yes, it's nice that they offer a manual. It's just a shame that it's not a more appealing transmission.

You are correct. They're not going to invest in developing a new manual transmission. Given that the 7 speed is a carry over from the 991, outside of homologation costs, they haven't made much of an investment in this one.

My first manual was a three speed. If the option was available, I'm not sure I would pick a seven speed.

yeah im sure there are better versions, dont have experience with older porsche models but i find this one incredible and better than anything i tried in the past. Not getting it if you are ordering a car now is a mistake imo.

There is no mistake. The PDK is the best dual clutch transmission I have ever driven and the manual is the best manual I have ever driven. Either choice is a good one. But the PDK is probably the best marriage of an electric car and an ICE car. Sort of best of both worlds!

I think Porsche 992 is a troll trying to sound like a 911 enthusiast. He repeatedly comes here to put down the 911 and plug EVs

You can build an EV that does 0-60 in -3 seconds (that's right--you go BACK in time!) and I still won't be interested. Trolls just gotta troll, I guess....

I just attended an event where I got to test drive a Taycan Turbo S. I had a blast doing their launch control. It was a fun experience.

Then I road in another Rennlist forumer's 992 tuned with Akrapovic exhaust. Guess which one I enjoyed more?

The PDK is the best dual clutch transmission that I have experienced in auto mode. In manual mode, it's also excellent, but while the manual changes are quick, they're not quite as fast as the Italians unless you're in Sport Plus. I am hearing that the Bugatti Chiron's Pur Sport dual clutch gearbox is even better, but I won't be experiencing that one any time soon. :P As for manuals, the 6 speed in the GT3 is significantly better than the 7 speed. Having driven all manner of manual transmissions for the past 35 years or so, I have been lucky to experience some some awesome.

"best marriage of an electric car and an ICE car"...
I don't know what you're talking about here. When I am attacking a backroad with the revs being kept between 4K RPM and redline, electric car doesn't come to mind. There's no point where I mistake my 911 for an EV. Aside from the Taycan which has a two speed transmission, EVs are a one speed affair.

To be clear, I think that it's awesome that Porsche still offers three pedals in the 911. If you want that experience, great. Enjoy it and have fun!
That being said, the days of the manual transmission of being superior in terms of performance and/or arguably, even driver engagement are indeed behind us.

My last manual was an E92 M3, 420bhp V8 that was a hoot to drive. To me that was the limit of power vs my ability to get through the gear quick enough and keep up with the engine. All of 10 years ago.

Since then I have become so impressed with DCT/PDK boxes and the ability to let the car do the work or take matters into my own hands I see no reason or have the want to step back into a manual car.

It’s each to their own, just my opinion, everyone has a different story and enjoys different things.

As for the “might as well drive electric”, I had a two ton M5 previously, therefore don’t wish to step back into another 2 ton monster (the wife has a macan, another two ton monster that I will drive but it’s not as much fun).

I’m all for threads declaring their love for a MT or PDK, but when the OP provides zero substance behind the reasons why it’s so great makes this a fail. Comparing a PDK to an EV & saying the 992 will be the last of the MT’s is dumb AF.

I agree with you Porsche992 and even had a 992 MT on order but in a rare moment of marital concession (and accelerated by impatience, as I still had several months of waiting) I caved and impulse bought a PDK on the lot. I really do not like automatics and find PDK no better than a torque converter automatic but I already have a few 3 pedal cars and this makes it a more versatile family car since my wife is so so on a manual. We can also use it as a guest loaner for when our parents or friends are staying with us and need wheels.

That all being said, I still want a manual 992. And I really hope a lot of people buy them so that Porsche keeps making them and there will be some on the used market in the future. Save the manuals!!!
