Default 992 C2 Build

http://www.porsche-code.com/PNXXNE21

here is a build I am considering. Only thing missing is sports chrono package. Do I want to special order and wait for this option or take the above build as available now?

summary:
Black on black
standard interior
black S 20/21 inch wheels
premium package
sport tailpipes in black
glass sunroof
red seatbelts
Heated Gt wheel
red tach
plus other minor cosmetic items

Ditto, ditch the premium package and get Sport Chrono as well as Sports Exhaust.

I’d even ditch the sunroof.

I understand its popularity. But this is “just” a C2 and will be used for spirited summer driving but no track. The standard exhaust also sounded amazing to me and the car just pulls. How often do people actually use it?

You don't really need lane change assist, surround view or PDLS+ in the Premium Package.

Makes sense but these options aren’t for track per se. They’ll make your weekend drives a whole lot more exciting. Also, if you ever do want to sell the car, it’ll take forever to sell without them.

You have been given EXCELLENT advice by knowledgeable members here. You need to take it. If you don't you will come to regret it with time.

Having just taken delivery of my 992 this week with both Sport Chrono and Sport exhaust, I can CONFIRM that I can't imagine living without either of them. The very first thing I have done each day this week when getting in the car is turn sport exhaust on immediately and reach down to twist the dial on my wheel to sport or sport + setting. The sport response button is fun and launch control will make your day. You take away sport chrono and you take away a lot of the best parts of the car. Not to mention cars with sport chrono package actually increase performance and 0-60 times by a noticeable amount (in my opinion).

I understand you arent tracking the car... but the exhaust is MASSIVELY better with the open valves of the sports exhaust system, and the features of Chrono really do add so much enjoyment and cool tech features that I personally would hate to go without

This sounds so amazing! Totally can appreciate that feeling as that is the essence of the 911. Did you get the C2 or a S variant? That is part of my decision because I am likely getting the base so not sure how much added worth it is.

C2 992. I looked at a base without Chrono and Sports exhaust... both those options make the C2 feel like the S. I just was down in Alabama at the Porsche racing school and they had us driving the S on track for 3 days. With chrono, and its imporved 0-60 times, it gives the Base cars almost as quick of times to 60... i think Porsche quotes a C2 equipped with Chrono can do it in 3.8, but the magazines have all put down 3.4 times in a C2 with chrono. The S on the website says 3.5 i think, but in reality is doing 3 seconds flat.
Just trust everyone on here... this isnt about being snobby and needing all the options, its about helping you understand that there are certain options that just make the car evolve into a better car

Don't get the base black, get metallic. Base black will show every nick and blemish on it.

I have to agree with this as well... The other base colors are fine, but I had the base black on a Cayman S I used to own and I had to have the paint corrected every year and ceramic coated just to keep it looking decent. It picks up every single swirl and scratch on planet earth. If you are looking for cost saving on paint, pick a different base, otherwise spend the extra few hundred for black metallic

Generally, a fine spec. I am a fan of the Premium package. That said, a couple of notes…

1) If a 911 build has only one option, that option should be Sport Chrono — a 911 without it is a lesser car. Option it and you get dynamic engine mounts, two extra driving modes, a rotary switch on the steering wheel, launch control, and that clock in the middle of the dash that every buyer of a used 911 will be looking for. When you skip Sport Chrono, you end up with a slower and less dynamic car. No one that has Sports Chrono regrets it. You can’t say the same for those that skipped it.

2) The world has enough black 911s. If you insist on such a non-color for your car, at least, get the metallic, because it will hide the imperfections. Porsche offers so many wonderful colors for these cars.

3) The standard interior isn’t awesome. If your budget allows, get the leather interior, because it’s more in line with a six figure automobile. You’re going to be spending a lot of time inside the car — make it nice.

It’s all about the street experience. People get way too caught up in this whole track thing. It’s little boys trying to be big boy race car drivers. It’s 90% fanciful. If you’re tracking you build a proper track car that you can beat the crap out of. Not a $100k plus commercial vehicle — even though it’s marketed for some track action. And the best spec for a 911 is light! Forget the junk get the performance options that’s what this car is about. Not leather dashes. Or lane changer. Sunroof delete is my number one spec on every sports car I’ve owned.

1. I did not get Surround View and have had my car a week. I wish I had just for the ease of parking in a garage and being able to see on screen instead of just the proximity sensors how close I am to hitting things. That said, I will be hanging some tennis *****.

2. I echo the sentiment of why black on black on black. I've made it no secret here that I have no love for black 911s and especially no love for black wheels. I realize you added a few red accents, but to me the black on black seems like a wasted opportunity.
