New infotainment system 6.0

Umm, pretty much ALL electrics are more reliable that traditional vehicles. Nothing new there. But compared to other cars in their segment, Porsches are rated very highly in terms of reliability.
The appropriate comparison you are looking for is comparing a Tesla to the Taycan.

Reading the description - https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/2...fe-24841.html- while some of the capability may be hardware dependent, it seems like a lot of the capability is mainly software related.
If they can't figure out how to bring some of the software capabilities to existing 992's, that would be terribly disappointing, especially for features like Android Auto support where they've been dragging their heels compared to the rest of VW group's other companies.
Is there a confirmation somewhere that Porsche won't be bringing an OTA update or if not OTA then in-dealer software update to existing 992's or are we collectively just wringing our hands waiting for an answer? Android Auto has been compatible with much older hardware on VW's since models from 2016 (see - https://www.android.com/intl/en_nz/auto/volkswagen/ if you don't believe me) and Audi's since 2017 - https://www.android.com/intl/en_nz/auto/audi/ - my point isn't to presume any shared supplier parts, but from a hardware lifecycle perspective claiming that it is tied to some new hardware dependency when other much older vehicles have the capability feels dubious - so the question is, is there a desire/intent to backport software updates that *should* be capably supported by existing hardware onboard the vehicle. Perhaps someone lurking on this forum from Porsche can give us a definitive answer.

Say’s the ‘dude”.
In 2021, despite being more expensive than the Tesla S, Porsche sold nearly 2X as many taycan in 2021, as did Tesla with it’s model S. The S is dated and the car isn’t selling well anymore. But hey, maybe you can play video games on it’s TV screen? If you’re looking for a good deal on an S, I’ll give you the contact info of my dealership. At last count, he had 3 Tesla S on their lot (white, red and some other weird looking color)...traded in for a Taycan, a 992 S and a 992 Turbo.
PS - Not here to rag on EV’s. In fact, when we replace my wife’s Lexus RX, it will be with a EV. I am kind of intrigued with the Lyriq by Cadillac....so that will be on our “let’s take a look” list.

Porsche can barely run its pcm. I've had minimal issues so far but the tesla and taycan from a software standpoint is like comparing a modern computer to an IBM PC Jr

The “Tesla is going to destroy Porsche if they don’t fix their software” is a silly comment and hyperbole at best. Comparing Tesla to Porsche is like comparing apples to oranges, you just can’t, they are different beasts. It’s sorta like someone saying they’re crossing shopping an M4 to a 992. They are not truly doing it, they are just kidding themselves.

Why wouldn't they? The degree of separation between the M camp and the Porsche camp isn't vast. I've noticed many people here came from M's. I came from the M cars, and many people on the BMW forums have either been in the Porsche camp at some point or aspire to get here eventually. However you feel about the aesthetics, the M3/M4 offers a compelling product for the price. At almost half the price of a similarly spec'd 911 C2S, the performance is right there. The Porsche is the better driver. There's no disputing that as a fact, but one can't go wrong with the M3/M4........especially if someone really likes the new styling.

you are thinking infotainment software, im talking battery management and yes autonomous driving in the future. If Porsche cant even make a decent rear view camera or infotainment software they are screwed. All cars in the future will be fully autonomous and people will probably not even be allowed to drive. I love my 992 but thats because i grew up with a manual transmission. Its a dream car. But kids are not looking at that, they want Teslas.

I recently sold my '17 M4, and I agree that they are different beasts. One drive in a 911 made that astonishingly clear. With that said, depending on use case, the M4 is still a valid cross shop option IF you need a car that can comfortably seat more than two adults, have adequate storage (...I won't even be able to fit what's in the trunk of my commuter Corolla into my 992's frunk, and ushering my work gear in the 992 will not happen; my war bag alone will take up the 992's back seats), etc. The M can still be used as a legitimate track weapon while offering utility.
