Question 992 Carrera Styling Superior to GT3 Touring

Hot Take: I think peoples lust for the

design is superior to that of any of the winged versions. I think that The GT3 Touring front scoop, while functional, seems out of place. I think what most people want is just a plain Carrera + NA engine + manual.

Obviously the NA engine in the GT3 is something special (and probably worth the price of admission). However, if Porsche decided to throw the 4.0 from the Cayman GTS/GT4 into the Carrera T it would absolutely blow the doors off any competitors and wouldn't hurt the GT3 sales much. The 3.0L would also still have a great spot in the lineup (likely for future hybridization + daily driveability).

Thoughts? (sorry for the bad formatting, not sure whats up there)

Is this a poll result in search of a question?

Maybe ask the same question / poll over in the 992 GT3 forum ...

I'm not a huge fan of the "nose" on the rear. The winged-GT3 had a nice ducktail to distract, but I just see Mr. Burns when I look at the touring.

NOSE THANK YOU

The GT3 touring looks amazing. It doesnt take anything away from the looks of the standard 992, but I think the added details from the touring package take it up a notch.

Granted, there's not an unattractive one in the bunch, but they're not all equally attractive.

  1. Targa
  2. Turbo
  3. Carrera
  4. Turbo Cabriolet
  5. Carrera Cabriolet
  6. GT3 Touring

I too wondered why the 4.0 from the GT4 isn't in the base 911 since this is now the first time a Cayman/Boxster has more power than a base 911 (I think).

The base 992 engine makes more torque and makes it much lower in the powerband. It also makes more horsepower than the GT4 engine everywhere until you get to the top of the rev range. The peak figures don't tell the story. You don't want a 911 with the engine from the GT4.

White doesn't do the SportDesign package justice.

100% agree. There are four things that aesthetically really kill me with the GT3, and three of them apply as much to the Touring as they do to the normal, "full aero" car.

  1. The nostrils.
  2. The crevice between the outer bumper and the xenomorph-style "inner mouth."
  3. The gooseneck wing.
  4. The indentation in the rear bumper
I'm sure it's all functional, but I think it's too aggressive for a non-RS GT3. It doesn't flow in the same way that a 991.2 GT3 does. Or, for that matter, the Carrera aerokit/SportDesign kit.

GT3T has a presence that is sometimes hard to capture in pictures.

I don't know why people have an issue with the GT3 wing.

If I were in the market for a GT3, I'd get the GT3. To hell with the touring.

The GT3 is way overblown imho...but many like it. I'm glad Porsche makes so many variances, but the pizza box on the rear trunk lid personally is a major turn off. Its also a very aggressive body design for everyday use. Race track wise though, no comparison, GT3 all day. For me, sigh...I am getting older now and prefer a more reserved / classic Carrera look, and the 922 checks many boxes. Cant go wrong either way though at the end of the day.
