Default Panel color factory mistake

Hi guys, new in the forum. So i have a unusual issue. I received my new 992 GT silver but with a factory mistake... the roof panel right behind the sun roof (the rectangle small panel) in dolomite silver. Extremely rare i was told and i believe the dealer. The thing is the factory has sent the dealer a new panel to replace mine, but today was told that the dealer had it painted at a local body shop to match the gt silver. I dont like this, i thought the replacement panel would come painted from the factory. Any ideas on how i shoukd proceed? Returning it and waiting another 6 months for another car is not going to happen. I love that thing. Thanks for your thoughts!

not sure it's something to fret over. if it was done at a Porsche approved body shop it should be a perfect match. Enjoy the car!

Thanks my fear is what happens in a few years, if the color will fade differently? After all the sun hits it directly as its the roof. Also do these modifications do something to resale value? I plan to keep the car for a long time but who knows. Thank you very much for your imput!

You could always refuse deliver and sell it back to the dealer for MSRP + 10k.

I've toured the BMW processing facility at the port in NJ. You would be amazed at the degree of body work they do on cars that arrive damaged, and still resell them to buyers as "brand new" cars. Paint, dent removal, etc. It's shocking but its actually routine on new cars. Had this issue been found at the Porsche facility at the port, they would have fixed it and you never would have even known about it, and similar repairs are happening to other people's car every day. Not trying to downplay your concerns, just noting that this happens more often than you think and buyers aren't even informed. They were even doing paint work on Rolls Royce's at the BMW NJ processing center.

Sucks, but agree not a major problem …….if the factory sends a painted part you still have the same issue potentially as they weren’t painted together. A good paint shop you will never be able to tell. Dealer may give you some goodwill discount for for error …..enjoy the car.

Mistakes happen all the time.

There are owners who have taken delivery of GT3s with different stitching (one seat had silver and another had yellow) or a TTS with different panel colors. Go figure.

It's just a car. Move on.

porsche paint is porsche paint. i don't think they're using krylon from a can to paint the part. again, the assumption is the dealer is utilizing a porsche approved body shop. resale value should not be affected.

Keep as delivered and sell as a 1 of 1 car?

I kid, maybe. Honestly I'd be pissed as heck but not much you can do. I think you'll be fine in the long run.

It’s pretty standard / expected for a part like this to come unpainted and to be painted locally when it arrives. The manufacturing pipeline is carefully managed and scheduled, that’s why car configurations are locked weeks before the actual build week. It might seem simple to paint the part at the factory, but from a logistics point of view, it’s a bit disruptive. If it’s painted by a quality body shop, it’s as good as the factory.

for extra peace of mind , have the GM send you an email documenting the situation and that the dealership will caver any future paint issues on that piece for may 5 years
so worse case scenario , something happens in that time frame , you have the email in your favor
and despite the trashing of dealers that happen on RL all the time, there are a lot of good dealers out there and most likely management at the time will honor the email from current GM
otherwise enjoy the car
