Ask Porsche for a certificate of authenticity that the panel was painted the wrong color. I wouldn't bother with pursuing fixes for it -- this is a cheerful thing to have fun with. Porsche takes a huge amount of pride in quality assurance and this clearly got past a few folks on the line. It would be awesome to have the mistake documented officially.

Then, when it comes to the time to sell, you put it on Bring-a-Trailer with that certificate. PROFIT!

haha i have no plans selling it and didnt think of profiting for it, but yes I want a letter at least saying that it did come like that from the factory

Nope. That would bug me for life. No one would notice. But I WOULD. I would just let them paint it. Having that one little section painted is no big deal.

I wonder if there's a dolomite silver out there with a similar piece in GT silver...
Don't you wish cars were like stamps? Unique defects makes them overvalued.

I've got a Dolomite Silver 4s, with a metal sunroof, waiting for me to pick it up in CT. I'm going to check that panel twice.

The stitching on my leather wrapped steering column somehow came in leather color instead of the chalk stitching like it’s supposed to be to match the rest of my interior. I just let it slide. Guess it makes the car unique lol

If it helps to ease your mind, not all panels and parts are painted by Porsche. Some parts come painted by outside sources and this isn't uncommon across most manufacturers. I work at one and know this first hand.

Its not to say it diminishes the mix up Porsche did and I would push that they send the panel painted, which in all probability was painted by the company that supplies that panel. I ran into the same issue with getting a replacement bumper insert on my GTS. The replacement part is primer only and fought tooth and nail to get it sent in what should have been matte black. I lost btw. loll

Hope you get this sorted to your satisfaction and assuming you keep the car, push for a good will gesture from Porsche to make up for their mistake.

P

I agree completely. I would have it fixed if it were me. Even if others barely notice, I’d notice it daily.

First I would never leave it as is if it's a different color than the rest of the car. There is absolutely no value in that. Get it painted by a Porsche certified shop, you will never see the difference.

Second I am skeptical that it came from the factory like that. Yes we have a pandemic but their quality control is too good to let this pass all inspection points. A lot of cars are painted at the port due to shipping damage are you sure this didn't happen there?

my conclusion after alot of thought is that they didnt have the part at assembly and then just put the dolomite silver one and let the customer/dealer fix the issue later. I dont think the factory did not know of this. And no.. this was not fixed at the port.

Your car will come in handy if someone wants to see how dolomite differs from GT silver.

For all those saying Porsche takes great pride in quality and precision, I agree. But I’m not quite sure that translates to the some of the general exterior assembly details.

When I was shopping a couple dealers last winter, I was shocked with how many screwups there were on showroom 992 cars.

One had a sport design side skirt in body color on the driver side and a standard black plastic on passenger.

Another had 3 Pirelli tires and 1 Goodyear.

And yet another with a full body color mirror on the one side and a standard black bottom mirror on the other.

A bit surprising that such obvious things are making it through QC - and that the dealers are surprised when you point it out.

my feeling is that porsche (and all traditional automakers) are going through survival mode right now financially and maybe are working with less staff. The transition to electric mobility is going to hurt and most will not even make it. I find no explanation other than that for the lack of care in this and other cases. Saving money wherever they can
