Car Drying Tools: Big Boi vs Cordless Leaf Blower
I know car washing tools and techniques have been discussed thoroughly around here, though I wanted to toss out a poll focused on which car-drying tool you would choose. I have a cordless leaf blower, but I am considering purchasing a Bigboi Mini, mainly because it blows filtered air. I know many here use a leaf blower, but I'm concerned about potentially sandblasting the finish with whatever debris/particulates might make their way through without an air filter. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t worry about any sandblasting effects from a leaf blower - but I have a BigBoi Pro blower I bought from @Esoteric_Detail . Its best features are the dual motors that focus air into tight spaces while also moving water off the car effectively using heated air.

A leaf blower is not powerful enough to sandblast a finish. These cars are not that fragile. Remember, these cars are built for the autobahn.
If it's small enough to make it through the BigBoi air filter, it doesn't have enough mass to do any damage. If you're washing your car outside, there will always be dust, pollen, etc.

And yeah I'm not concerned at all about the Bigboi, only concern was the leaf blower. True that on the dust/pollen that will always be outside though.

I picked up a makita blower, couple of spare batteries (I have lots anyway for my tools), but it has a rubber end so the occasional tap on the car isn’t a problem.
No pff or ceramic coating, but I tend to blow the wing mirrors and around the badges, all the door gaps, then use a spray wet wax and cloth.
Wife’s macan is a bloody nightmare, rear spoiler holds a swimming pool and open/close the boot and it pours out. Blower helps with all the gaps and mirrors.
Something I’ve learned recently, slap an old towel on the windscreen before wet waxing, stops the screen getting wax on it and then use the towel to wipe it afterwards, comes up perfect!

I used a leaf blower on prior cars and it worked very well. But I find my Big Boi Pro to be faster, more effective and easier to use. If you get the long hose and have wall space to install a mount for the blower it’s even easier. But the Big Boi Pro + hose is expensive. If I didn’t view it as a toy for my toy I would have been fine with a leaf blower.
Something else I’d point out, if your water is hard or you don’t rinse off every bit of soap, the Big Boi’s heating can quickly produce streaks on then finish. On the other hand if you de-ionize or have soft water the heating reduces the time it takes to remove water from the car.

I use a leaf blower. Industrial grade/back pack model. Hurricane force winds...multi-purpose, as also used in the Fall for the mounds of leaves I have. Used on all my cars for last 10-15 years. Great for getting water out from all the tiny cracks.

On a side note, looking at inline filters to remove the limescale. Heavy water area where I live, and the sun doesn’t get far enough round to allow washing until 16:00 at the moment. Any preference, do’s and do not’s, any experience with this?

I have an Ego leaf blower that is pretty powerful, but it has a turbo mode for significantly more power when you need it. The battery lasts a long time, so I never deplete it drying the car. It works beautifully, and I like the fact that I am not tethered to a canister or an electrical cord. I very strongly doubt that I am damaging my car in any way. Consider that just driving along an interstate blows small dirt particles at you at high velocity. A good ceramic coating will counter a lot of this. (I'm not a fan of PPF, so I took a pass on that).

I have an EGO leaf blower. I still would highly recommend the BigBoi blower.

I have a 60 gal 2 stage compressor, with a long **** hose and a blower fitting. Beats any leaf blower or Big Boi. Gets into the tiniest crevasses etc. BTW how many of you clean the inside of your rims?
