Ordering 992 CS4 in black— searched forums for this query without luck. What is the big cosmetic difference between standard black and jet black? Looking for the glossiest black— which one?
Both black are great .I had a cayenne with the nonmetallic black and it was beautiful and kind of deep black when clean .My 992 is Jet black which is glossier doesn't show dirt so much and changes to shades of black in the sun. I was always worried before my cayenne to have a black car now that I learned how to take care of it its my favorite color.

Beautiful car— thanks man, really leaning to the black metallic

Jet Black Metallic has multi-colored metalflake in the paint. It has some gold, some turquoise, some purple and some blue metalflake. The metalflake is fine and not pronounced. Under direct sunlight, you can see the different colors depending upon the viewing angle. It is very beautiful in my opinion. But so is Porsche gloss black. I have had multiple cars in both colors. Gloss black does show fingerprints slightly more and is slightly more difficult to keep show-room clean, but is striking when it is clean. Overall, I would say that Jet Black Mettalic does not look quite as dark under almost all conditions. It appears black in most indirect or artificial light conditions. Gloss black looks dark black under all lighting conditions. Side by side, the cars will reflect different "shades" of black with gloss being generally darker. Bottom line, I think it would be a matter of "metallic" vs "non-metallic".
By the way, Porsche has many other beautiful shades of metallic black including Basalt Black Metallic and several others that reflect slightly more prominence of one color or another in the metalflake.
Here are some pics of jet black against gloss black trim on our '21 cayenne. Hard to tell, and the car is a little dirty, but jet black is a bit "off" black, more pronounced in the sun. A1 black would be a wetter pure black look when clean and I think would look more aggressive. You can't really tell in the shade.
They both look good but for me I want a black car to look just black so old fashioned "black" is my pick.... JBM to me sometimes looks like a dusty black car. In the right lighting it looks killer but in other lighting I just don't love the effect. One thing to keep in mind though is that generally speaking the metallic black will show off the curves of the car a bit more.
I would spend more for the metallic black especially since it’s adding another layer of paint. If the regular black paint is like my Macan’s, it was fairly soft and not a lot of depth to work with. I don’t normally do PPF, but would definitely do it on a straight up black Porsche. I even spoke to three detailers about paint correction, apparently black paint on Porsches is a known problem and not a lot of room for error when correcting it.
Here's the thing with just plain ol' "Gloss Black". If/when you need to repaint or touch it up, Plain Gloss Black is the one and only color that will always color match perfectly. No PPF required IMHO. When the inevitable nicks accumulate over the years, as expensive as repainting the car can be (and it's not cheap!), it's still less expensive and the end result is far superior to any PPF coating.

i have had both metallic and standard gloss and much prefer the standard. To me the non-metallic just looks incredible when clean. It’s a super deep, wet look.

im not as worried about fingerprints as road dust— I have a black GTR that seems to attract road dust ar the back end.
this decision is getting more difficult

Wow that is gorgeous— that’s what I’m looking for, glossy wet look!
I have no personal opinion, but Nick Murray, the self-proclaimed P-car expert, had a two-part (and quite lengthy) YouTube on every option for the 911. He says to stay away from the base black, noting that the paint is soft and does not wear well.
His discussion of black is from 2:40 - 3:40. By the way, I think his videos are quite good to watch to get his view of the pros and cons of all options, big and small.
All that being said, the photos of the black cars in this thread are breathtakingly stunning.
