I have both, a plain black on my Cayenne GTS, and Metallic Black on my 992.

I prefer the standard black, the Metallic always looks "dusty" to me and doesn't have the reflectivity of the standard black.

My wife says her Chalk Macan S is better looking than either of my black cars...lol....so there's that.

I have JBM

If you are maniacal about cleaning or can do whole car PPF - nothing looks better than pure black.

On a DD without PPF, JBM is much more practical. It does hide swirls and dust much better.

Yes they are. I’m very pleased with how they look on a gloss black car.

My MY20 GT4 is Black and my MY16 911 is Jet Black (metallic). The deepest, wettest shine is undoubtedly Black. The metallic particles in Jet Black dilute down the 'blackness' - bit like older LED tv screens, and tend to take on adjacent colours by reflection/ they also hide light dust a little better. I haven't noticed any difference in durability. I prefer the non metallic.

I’m not understanding how black is softer then jet black. They both get the base color coat and then clear coat. The thickness of paint should be the same

Black paint isn't any thinner or softer than any other color. However, the darker the color and the less metallic in the paint, the less it takes for dirt, debris and scratches (or any sort of damage) to become objectionably visible.

In my experience, no matter what I did with a jet black BMW, it would swirl and mar when touched even with micro fiber. Later on, I had a metalic black BMW and that one I had no problem keeping swirls off it. I will never own a normal black car again. Ever again. lol. BMW jet black has scarred me for life.

The key is how you wash and dry the car. Do it right, no swirls. The brand of car doesn't matter.

This is what I have heard from various sources. The base black supposedly shows imperfections noticeably more than the metallic option.

Yes, but if you do it slightly less than right some manufacturers paints are more forgiving.

Out of all the dark BMW's Ive owned. Porsche dark colored paint was SO much easier to maintain. I could wipe it down with the same brand towels I used on my jet black BMW that would hologram, swirl, mar just looking at it...lol.

I have both and am resining the thread because I had not seen a 992 in either . I had posted a video as I tried to make out the color but I think its regular black . What I have found is that both have to get ceramic pro by my professional detailer. , If parked outdoor JBM is the way to go . At night one cant tell the difference . It's hot in the day though . My 911 Turbo is regular black . My Macan Turbo is JBM. I wasn't going to get this new GTS in black but tonight I saw my wife's car driving on the road and it led me to think more on it.

The other day my A1 black 992 tts was parked beside a friends metallic black car in direct sunlight when the sun was low in the sky. My car looked black as night where his car looked almost brown and hazy in comparison. Generally metallic black will only look black in the shade. In direct sun, forget about it.

Interesting seeing this comment.

Now I have a pure black car with whole body PPF and that color is so much more impactful than the JBM C2s I used to own.

In bright light, metallic black does have a dusty appearance with a purple tinge. Pure black has a pop.

So far with PPF, cleaning has been a non-issue and the car isn't a daily driver, so it all works out fine.

That’s a night and day difference in colour. I have a 6 stage nano ceramic graphene coating and ppf on rear 1/4 and rockers. My car is so easy to wash I barely touch it.
