I just received my premium notice from Geico for the next 6 months. After a small fender bender with the Explorer in August, Geico paid out $1,073 to the other party. They graciously increased my premium 43%. After I called to see what we could do, they offered to put an app on my smartphone to monitor my driving. For that, I could save about $20 per month. It's coming boys and girls. See last weeks article in the WSJ. Allstate is going for it big time. Big Brother is here. BTW, we've been with Geico 9 years and this has been my only claim.

if you can afford a 911, you can afford to insure yourself appropriately.

Right now I’m using Travellers for the 911 C2S. I got a quote for my 992 TTS. ~$3900/yr with Traveller’s and ~$6000/yr for PURE. Not insignificant.

Probably can only guess/ascertain quality of any insurer vs premia paid, after one files a claim for a major umbrella/home/auto issue....and experiences their claims service or lack thereof....and one's subsequent premia
And all insured individuals have different risk profiles vs driving record/prior claim history/regional issues, etc etc, as do the various insurers vs various strata of insured and insurer's own balance sheet (think AIG in '08)....so a rather idiosyncratic discussion, though most high net worth drivers seem to favor one of the oligopoly of high-end insurers that high-end insurance brokers (and one's attorneys) seem to recommend based upon prior anecdotal history vs high-end insured clients facing major claims
Suspect, like much in life, one is ultimately self-insured for the really big tail risks that transcend a mere house or car....can't ever buy back/be fully compensated for one's health and/or time lost vs any major claim....

As an attorney who has dealt with less than reputable insurance companies, my best suggestion is to search your state's State Insurance Department for complaints on carriers. You'd be surprised how low mainstream insurers rank with regard to handling of claims, payment, etc.

Agreed value on the 993 C4S ($140k) is about $2k. The TTS is $240k, so I wasn’t expecting a cheap rate, but I have no accidents or tickets in many years.

Really… Interesting. I live on the Gulf Coast. Rates are high here for homes, in general, and a lot of companies won’t even insure homes down here. I didn’t think that extended to cars.

Obviously mainstream insurers would have more complaints since they have more customers.
Problem with small insurance firms is that there is a risk they go defunct before your case gets resolved (which could take years for a major accident with injuries).

USAA isn't a publicly traded company. It is owned by its members, and each member gets a subscriber's savings account where capital is held to pay for claims. You cannot withdraw these funds unless you cancel your auto/homeowner's policy completely. You cannot add funds to the account. There are no income tax implications, either. The board of USAA annually authorizes a distribution to members from their subscriber's savings account. (I've been with USAA for decades, and I get about $400 rebated (plus or minus) each year). Distributions are not guaranteed, but I can't recall a year where I haven't gotten one. Your account typically grows over the years unless USAA has a catastrophic claims-paying experience, so if you have been a lifelong member, it is worth it to call them and get your balance. However, they send a statement to their members every year showing Subscriber Savings Account activity, so I'm surprised you are not getting yours.

USAA is one of the top insurers in NYS as is AAA, the oldest insurer in the country I believe. I'm with the latter and get great rates
