Default Wanting feedback on options

Hey folks!

I'm looking to buy a new car to embrace the end of COVID and things get back to normal. (finger crossed)

I currently own a 2017 Macan GTS. It was my first ever Porsche and I absolutely love the car. At the time I couldn't get a 911 due to reasons but now luckily I'm in a position where I can start thinking about having a 911 which has always been my dream.

I've been reading a lot of posts in this forum and thanks to you guys I have learned a lot.

I think I'm going for a C2 Cab. Living in NorCal and I do miss having the top down from time to time when I used to have an Merc SLK back in the days.

Here's my build so far http://www.porsche-code.com/PN52Q496

I tried my best to not over spec it but for some reasons it still easily got past 140k. And I'm not even adding some other cosmetic things like deviated stitching and carbon fiber trims..

I really love the racing yellow and can't resist the smile just thinking about it. Wanted to go have black everywhere else to complement the color. One of the reasons for not going for a C2S cab is to have the black calipers instead of red, as I'm not too sure about yellow + red color scheme. (Well I could get the PCCB with yellow caliper but that's a lot of $$$). Same reason I'm opting for minimal red at the back with Exclusive Design Taillight.

Am I going too crazy with cosmetic options? Anything else that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Aren’t black calipers an option on an S?

I think that you did a fine build! Good luck.

yes, but that would move his build price up substantially. I was thinking 4 way seats as a way of saving some money too.

You are implying that your budget can handle an S, and that you aren't going there because the red calipers would clash with the yellow car. The Base vs. S debate has garnered an enormous amount of space on Rennlist over the past many months, and I won't try to restate those arguments here. It's just that the color of the calipers seems like an odd reason for leaning into a Base rather than an S. I'm inferring, though, that you value the car's appearance more highly than extracting its full performance potential-- and if that is the case, I do not think you are overspending on appearance items. Adding up your appearance items (including the 20/21 inch wheels, which I assume you are getting because you like the way they look), you are spending about $5300 on the visuals-- so your build would be about $135,000 if you left them off entirely. I don't think that moving from $135k to 140K qualifies as an over-the-top indulgence. It's only about a four percent premium on top of the car you designed, and if those appearance items materially add to your enjoyment of the car, it would be foolish to pass them by. I think most people buy the 992 because of the way it makes them feel, and if these appearance items amplify your joy of ownership, don't let yourself be overtaken by buyer's remorse.

Love the bold Yellow! Unless you frequently use regular cruise control I would drop ACC. I find myself never using cruise control. You can save those 2k or put them against an "S" build!

Good video (there is a part 2) where every option on the list is talked about and commented on. ACC is nice because having collision avoidance on a $140K car, is probably worth $2K. I thought ACC was a waste on a driver's car, but then watched some videos and thought about it.

Or $4,790 unnecessarily spent, depending on how you look at it.
$1k for the LCA is a different story.

For sure LCA, should be standard on the car really. But that video also got me thinking - how often do I drive at night? Is the PDLS dynamic lighting worth $1280? Also, the car is near 80db interior noise at highway speeds and I don't listen to music, just news/talk/sports - does the $1600 Bose make sense given that? Plus his comments that the ventilated seats are "uncomfortable" because you are sitting on that air bladder. Thinking about all those comments, nixed the Premium package for my needs.

It's a nice build. Regarding your comments, just be sure to avoid the buyer's remorse by avoiding options, including cosmetic options, that you really do want. And if your inclination is to go for the S versus base cabriolet, go for it. Regarding the brake calipers, for the C2S Cab the calipers in high gloss black are a $900 option. Agree that would be a better look vs. red calipers on your Racing Yellow build.

Enjoy - but if you're thinking about it, start looking for an allocation now. It's going to take some time and effort....

Thanks all for the great feedbacks!

I went to a dealership to test drive a base vs S over the weekend. I would say the base power is more than enough for my driving style. I tried the 14 way seats vs 18 way, looked at standard interior vs leather interior, looked at deviated stitching in-person. Now I'm mostly decided to go all-in on the yellow tone with deviated stitching, dial and meter in RY. I do want to make it really to my liking on the aesthetics. So as silly as it may sound, I'm putting the money into the looks instead of the performance.

I probably made a mistake by putting down a deposit when there's no guaranteed allocation or timeline from the dealer. Also at MSRP without any discount. Got too excited and had my wife beside me. Fortunately it was refundable. I've started the hunt by emailing multiple dealers around me, and some of them do have allocation slots but not offering discounts. Not sure if I should set my expectation lower during this time..

I'm shocked you found a dealer that had both a base and an S in stock. Amazed!

YES you made a mistake of putting down a deposit with no allocation or timeline.

If you find an allocation elsewhere, secure it with a deposit and get your other deposit back. Otherwise you could be waiting a while.

I watched both those videos in their entirety and skimmed through sections after the fact. I nixed the lights because the reasoning made sense. He also makes fun of the Aerokit, but in truth, it has grown on me. I don't like the sport design rear bumper with the license plate moved up and that is part of the Aerokit. And I did opt for things like the Ventilated Seats. Maybe the regular are more comfortable by some degree but we have them in our Macan S and on some days it is a nice feature. He also says in the video not to get PASM Sport because all it does is lower the car 10mm. That isn't true. It changes the spoiler max height, adds stiffer components, and adds a Sport/Normal mode for the suspension. I believe all those are specific to SPASM.

I don't have my build code but:
C2S Manual w/ Sport Chrono
Gentian Blue
Black Leather with Chalk Stitching
Deviated Seat Centers in Chalk
Extended Tank
Rear Axle Steering
Heating Steering Wheel (not GT wheel)
930 Leather Package
Headrest Crests
Classic Wheels
Ventilated Seats
Tach and Chrono Dials in White
Bose
Sport Package w/ PSE and PASM Sport
18-way Seats
Ambient Lighting
Illuminated Door Sills
and NO Sunroof.

You're certainly not alone. It's driving a real sellers market right now. I am so glad I pulled the trigger last August. So thankful to be a bystander right now, things sure are getting just a bit crazy out there these days!
