We'll see what my dealer offers me. I will be pushing for something right until I sign the final contract for transferring the car

I just (17 March) put money down on a new custom-order 992 at a dealer where I've purchased three (3) new Porsches from in the past at 8-10% off MSRP. This time it was full MSRP, owing to the shortage.

For my three previous custom orders, I've paid MSRP. Could I have gotten a discount? Maybe, but I didn't try.
The cynic in me makes me think that given their supply of allocations that dealers will rank their orders by how much $ they'll make and perhaps even how "weird" a spec is - a "normal" spec might be more likely to get a discount than a wildly personalized color combo (if you walk, they probably won't want a McDonald's themed Christmas tree sitting on the lot).
If allocations are scarce, that cynical side of me would even think it would help to jack up the MSRP with options to make the order more attractive. They like you to think there's a "list" of people that get allocations in first-come-first-served order, but no one ever actually sees that list but the dealer - they have no incentive to assign allocations in that order, and if they were agreeing to a 7% discount I'm not surprised that they couldn't find an allocation to assign you if they had another customer anywhere on that list with an optioned to the roof spec at MSRP.
If you're looking for a deal - right now is probably not optimal timing.
I respect what you are saying and it is easy to be cynical with car dealers. But I sat with both the GM and the SA and they looked me straight in the eye and said I was first on the list. They were also very responsive to my inquiries. Most telling - over 3 months, they did not have a single new 911 on the lot. When I told them I found an allocation at another dealer, they told me to take it and immediately refunded my $5K. Were they lying? Who knows?

Oh - I don't mean to imply I'm certain they were lying - I'm just being really, really cynical.

Seems like the lack of transparency and asymmetric information on 911 pricing will doom us to these types of threads into perpetuity. You'd think at this point there'd be a publicly accessible database of new 911 pricing. You buy a Porsche, you contribute your transaction data (MSRP, discount, dealer, etc) to it for everyone to see.

If someone is looking for a project, they should create a Typeform that populates a spreadsheet with the above. Just need to figure out a way to prevent dealers from gaming it and claiming they are getting ADMs on Carreras

The problem is some (most?) dealers don't necessarily want it plastered all over the place what discounts they are giving out. So some customers may withhold that information out of courtesy.

I suspect that discounts are happening more than these threads would have it appear.

Limited supply of cars with plenty of buyers willing to pay MSRP. Unfortunately, the supply crunch isn’t going to change anytime soon. Count yourself lucky to secure a 992 in this environment.

I would ask for 8% but at the end of the day in the current market depending on your location if you truly want to leave the dealership with an actual allocation be prepared to accept 0%.

I have a custom 992 C2S in production right now. When I secured the allocation back in January, I asked for a 6% discount and the sales manager agreed to 4% off MSRP.

I also think it is a moving target and as they say" History is no guide". When I secured my allocation in late September I got 6 with some members reporting 7 or 8. in December/Jan reports were 3-4 and with the current chip shortage and covid flare I really think 0% is going to be the average for most people.

It cant hurt to ask but honestly if you are serious about getting a car in most markets you really will need to accept that MSRP might be where its at.

If you’re interested in ordering a 992, you’ve picked the worst time ever. Dealers’ allocations were cut as Porsche and others struggle with a shortage of rare earth metals used in semiconductors and as such, a shortage of semiconductors. There are virtually no allocations in the country. My dealer said they have six months worth of 992s spoken for. Nick Murray posted a video on his YouTube for a 4S allocation at his dealer, but the car is selling at MSRP. You’d be better off buying either preowned or a car on the lot, if you want any hope of a discount, but it’s worth a try to expand your search area and order a car way out of state and have it delivered or go pick it up and do a road trip home. Check with your dealer and see if they can swap an allocation with another dealer (if there are any at all, which I doubt).

I was told (Canada) by a dealer that discounting custom orders affects their allotment from Porsche who monitors sell prices.

My dealership offered me 7.00% off MSRP for a custom ordered base 992 in February 2020 for June 2020 delivery...but my order was canceled and my deposit fully refunded in March 2020 when the world shut down.

This month...that exact same dealership and exact same sales rep told me no discount if I wanted to place a custom order Base 992 (which would be delivered by end of 2021 or early 2022).

He ended up hooking me up with a brand new Base 992 sight unseen that had just arrived at the dock. It was 90% of what I wanted my custom build to be. I spent the entire day negotiating over phone/email and just got over 2.00% off MSRP since I agreed to purchase the car immediately.

Looking back...I can’t believe I even jeopardized negotiating the lousy 2.00% realizing I may not get anything close to this build for the next 6-12 months.
