Default Feedback on my build

http://www.porsche-code.com/PMDKH7V7

Greetings, Rennlisters. Long time lurker, recent soon-to-be owner.
l was able to secure a base Carrera allocation a few weeks ago and my OCD is thoroughly enjoying the build process. Buying a brand new 911 to my spec has been a bucket list car/experience of the highest magnitude. I feel very fortunate to be able to be in a position to check off a top bucket list item at the ripe old age of 45. I’d love some feedback from fellow Rennlisters on my build and am open to comments and/or suggestions. See link above.

I’ve researched all the options including what I felt were “must haves”... including base Carrera vs S. Based on my research and being honest with myself with what I felt I would be using the car for, I went with the base Carrera. I’ll eventually go Stage 1 tuning when the aftermarket catches up as I’ve had good experience with tuning my Audi’s. I feel my first (it’s never your last, right!?) Porsche should be a classic color like silver. I had a C6Z06 in Competition Yellow and my last car was a Shelby GT350R in Race Red. I’m getting the urge to tone down my next sports car’s exterior color (maybe I’m getting old?) and feel that a lighter metallic color really shows off the car’s body lines. I love the other colors as this car looks good in all of them, but I’m drawn to Dolomite Silver (DS).

I had my DS spec’d car ready but took the advice from forum members to go to the dealership and check out cars on the lot and the sample room. I’m glad I did. I was originally going with a budget focused build but after seeing a base Cab’s interior vs. full leather on a customer’s Targa 4S, there is no comparison. The base interior looks like it comes out of a Golf GTI...and if I’m spending 6 figures on a car, it needs to at least look the part. In the sample room the immediate attraction was the DS with Graphite Blue (GB) full leather with deviated stitching in Chalk. It looks good on the Configurator, but I’m certain this combo will look stunning in person. In the sample room, the GB sample really brought out the blue in the DS body sample.

Anyway, I’m beyond ecstatic to be on this journey and looking forward to comments on my spec. My freeze date is March 22 with a June 11 scheduled dealer deliver date.

Congrats!

Your first Porsche is always memorable. The configuration process is a big part of the fun. There is really no wrong way to spec these things.

I like the build -- I might consider going with Sport Plus 4 ways. They are nice and supportive. That said, the standard seats are still good.

You may want to consider Steering Column leather surround. It seems like a silly little option, but it really does dress up the interior in a nice but subtle way. Seeing that you appreciate the leather interior, I'd bet you'd like it.

Thanks!
There was a preowned 991.2 Targa in the showroom with the steering column in leather and it looked great, but then where does it stop? LOL. I already thought the base interior would be fine when online spec’ing, but the dealer visit pried my wallet open further. LOL.

The seats are the biggest question mark. I have 2 little ones that will be going along for drives, so the 14 way and 18 way are off the table. I want the convenience of being able to quickly move the front seats forward. I’m 5’11, 215lbs with a 36” waist. I have broad shoulders and the base 4 ways felt like freedom for my shoulders. Like my wife coming home from work and taking off her bra type of freedom. The Recaro’s in my Shelby (put on the seller’s transporter today....I’m still grieving), were very snug in a good way when I exercised her. But if I just wanted to cruise, they could be a real PITA. I don’t regret the experience, but I’m thinking going a completely different route with this build. I welcome more feedback on the seats!!!

The standard seats are definitely easier to get in and out of. Those probably make the most sense here.

love the build. how much do you plan on listening to the stereo? a lot of people think the base stereo is definitely lacking and think the Bose is the minimum. the 992 engine/exhaust isn't going to sound as good as your Shelby or C6; so you might need something to fulfill that aspect.

Build looks great and I'm sure you will love it. Im waiting out the delivery of my first Porsche as well and about the same age so congrats.

2 Things if I were you.

1. have you looked at the Dolomite next to the GT Silver...I was surprised at how much more I liked the GT Silver. I had it specced until I fell off the deep end and specced a PTS in British Racing Green.

2. The Ventilated Seats, I read enough about how much firmer the seats were when ventilated and my dealer even mentioned it firms them up considerably. As a result I skipped them preferring the added comfort.

Either way great build.

I did not listen to any audio options as a I’ve never been a huge audio geek. I rarely listened to the radio in my other sports cars. I prefer open window driving and listening to the motor. Based on online vids I’ve watched, the sport exhaust doesn’t seem worth it for the price. I’d prefer to go aftermarket when it’s available.
Is the standard audio really that bad?

Im partial to blue and the dealer actually had GT and Dolomite sitting next to each other. They are both good looking. The GT is more gold and Dolomite is more blue. Can’t go wrong either way, but graphite blue with Dolomite looked awesome

I may need to rethink the seat ventilation....

I’m with you on the sport exhaust. I prefer the 4 round tips on the S models. But, if you plan to go with an aftermarket exhaust, most of them are designed to replace the factory oval sport exhaust and may not be compatible w/ the base exhaust. I think aftermarket cats or DPs would work but the aftermarket muffler portion may not fit with the standard exhaust. At least I haven’t seen anybody upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust from the base exhaust yet.

funny Nick Murray says the same thing. We have ventilated seats on our 2015 Macan S and don’t feel that is the case. But I also don’t have a benchmark. I have the ventilated in my build and would be curious to hearing how much different you think they are.

My S arrives in July or August so it will be a bit of a wait but will reach out once I have it. Might not be an issue but to me it wasn’t that important and it doesn’t get hot where I live.

Disciplined build. Here are few thoughts...
  • Kudos for recognizing that the base interior isn't consistent with a six figure automobile. You spend all of your time inside the car. It might as well be nice.
  • Colored wheel center caps are so underrated. They level things up.
  • Seat ventilation is a great thing to have. I spent 17hrs in a single day in my ventilated 18 ways -- zero complaints. The "stiffer" complaint is overblown.
..and that brings us to 4 ways vs the other seat options, I don't have any issue getting kids in/out of the back seat with the 18 ways and the memory makes it easy to put the driver's seat right back to where it was. The 18 ways are extremely adaptable to a wide range of body types with features like adjustable thigh support that are nonexistent with the 4 ways. Unless you are of extremely, er... uh... wide carriage, the 18 ways are a better seat for 99% of the people out there.

This looks like a well disciplined build and the color combo will look great. My last one was GT silver and your thoughts are right that the light on the silver paints really do show off the lines. You will enjoy how the appearance changes at different times of the day and cloud conditions.

Also, I am also thinking I might not go with PSE in my next one and just do after market. However, exhaust note adds nothing to the performance and your kids might not enjoy sitting on the sound symposer - not good for their little ears. Good family choice.

Congrats and welcome to the community.

OP - very nice spec. The blue interior will go well with the cooler hue of the Dolomite Silver. But do add Bose stereo.

Agree with all of this. 4 ways are fine for many, but for me the lumbar and thigh adjustments are mandatory. Nice also to have the memory function.

Regarding the ventilated seats, my 992 is my first without them and I don't notice much difference in the stiffness at all. And center wheel caps are a (relatively) inexpensive option and stand out.

Regarding sound system, unless you don't care AT ALL about sound quality, I'd say the BOSE system is worthwhile upgrade. IMO the base system isn't even worth turning on.

And regarding PSE, going aftermarket is certainly a viable option but from what I've seen, at the moment it will only work with the PSE single oval tailpipes. There has been some talk of something being available soon that will work with the quads, but apparently will require a modified lower fascia that would probably cost big bucks.

As for extended leather (e.g., steering wheel column), I had that on a previous TTS. Very nice look, but to be honest, after a short while I didn't pay attention to it at all. I go with the basic leather package now and it's enough for me - although I did order the 930 leather package on the 992 and like that a lot....

Tough to go wrong here and all are personal preference things - enjoy the hunt.
