How Would You Redesign the Gauge Array?
#2
Porsche is cramming the 5 gauge appearance into far less horizontal space than the original mechanical gauges occupied. The mechanical gauges forced the spacing by virtue of their design. The current “gauges” are video displays. Porsche is using two (one Left and one Right) medium sized displays to simulate two gauges each. If Porsche used two larger displays or four small displays this would cost more, but would eliminate the current shadowing of the outboard gauges.

A HUD. Porsche should keep the nice big tachometer in the center for old time's sake, and put the rest on the windshield.
Frankly it's ridiculous that cars still have gauges at all, and yes, that goes for you too, Elon.

Something more like this kind of spacing where the steering wheel cuts through the space between the two outboard gauges and the gauges that flank the tachometer.
If you compare this to the picture of the 992 above, what stands out is the spread of this early dash reaches from side window to the center of the car (note the gearshift lever position) whereas our 992's end at the edge of a rather wide console.

I'd rather have the analog gauges as in the 997 or 356. And yes the steering wheel is in the way of two of the gauges. While we are at it, I would revert back to console switches rather than having to aim your finger at something on the 11 inch screen and PLEASE get rid of the domino. It might be great at an art exhibition in Berlin but it's silly in the car; yes of course IMHO goes without saying

What I find interesting; Nowhere in the Owners Manual or on Porsche's web site do you ever see a drivers perspective of the dashboard with anything other than blank space where the gauges would be. The only view like this is in the pictures provided in the configuration tool (see below).

2 of the 5 analog gauges were worthless as far as a modern car is concerned. There is no need for a quartz VDO clock and you can only see half of the left sided gauge because the steering wheel blocked it. The way it currently is, not too bad except you cannot see the fuel gauge for ****. On my 991.2 at least the fuel gauge appeared in some of the MFA screens so you could see it there.
