is there a way to change the color of the tach numbers so you can see them??

Earlier model 911's with white instrument faces were the same, but the numbers weren't lit unless the lights were on. Not daylight running lights, rather the main beams. The finish though was not a simple white paint, I can't recall the term they used but it was some sort of special finish intended to go dark like you say when natural light dropped off. But this visibility issue still happened around dawn and dusk, for 1/2 an hour or so the lights would be on but the dials still showed white. Once natural light dropped off as you say the faces went dark and all was good.

My '19 GTS had the optional white gauge faces but this was never an issue because the numbers stayed dark during the day and only illuminated at night when the white faces were no longer visible. Can you turn off the daytime running lights and in turn, turn off the illuminated dials?

I took my white-dialed 992 out for a nice jaunt today and gave some attention to the issue raised here. After reading this thread I was curious why I didn’t feel bothered by it previously and to see if once aware it would trouble me. What I found was I could see the numbers fine if I wanted to but don’t find myself wanting to. 4K is at 12 o’clock, when I glance at the dial, I’m not even looking for numbers I’m noticing needle position. This is even true as while I’m in break-in where I”m imposing an RPM ceiling. But if I did look for the number it wouldn’t be a problem for me.
I agree the configurator is misleading. It’s also possible different eyes see things differently. But for me it’s a complete non-issue.

Does the numbers illuminate on the 992 during day light? I have this on my spec and after looking here it doesn’t look nice if it illuminate during day light. The standard black would be the best choice then.
Any white dial 992 owners can confirm this please.
thanks.

The numbers light up whenever the ignition is on. They are visible but in bright light there is very little contrast. Obviously in dimmer light situations they’re very visible. To me it makes the tach harder to read in bright light,it’s distracting not being able just to glance I tend to look longer at the gauge. Although many people it doesn’t bother. If do you want to spruce the tach .Order a color with more contrast ,red or yellow ,when you turn the ignition on you’ll have white numbers on a red background much easier to read than white on white. I'd be interested too, for the time being I just modded the sport chrono though I had to re-paint as the red was not a match

Just remembered but I don't think it has any effect other than to document the vehicle correctly upon your change:
You also should change in VOF tach and SC to the appropriate color and then AUTO CODE Kombi. I changed mine in the hope that one could thereby change the wavelength but that would have meant a catastrophic loss of revenue so you can't do it that way.
