Default 992 Door handle cracked

Hi all,

Just an advisement that my 992 drivers door handle cracked. I purchased the car in June so it didn't take long! I haven't taken it in yet but I assume it will be covered under warranty and replaced. We have recently had some cold weather days which may be part of the culprit. It looks to be a stress fracture through the entire handle with the paint cracked all the way through.

There was another thread on this as well. It could indeed be a cold weather thing with some handles.

Dealership said it was first they saw. They ordered a new handle and will replace it when delivered. No issues. Warranty will cover the replacement and service.

I do believe it had to do with colder weather. The car is used daily so it does spend time outside while I’m at work. It could be possible someone was trying to mess with door handle while locked at some point as well. Can’t be sure. I have a gut feeling these handles will be common issues over the next few years. :-)

When you refer to cold, what was the temperature?

That is a great question. Not crazy cold. 10-25 degrees.

The more I think about it I seriously wonder if someone was messing with the handle while at work thinking they could force the door open. I really don’t know. It’s pretty much a guessing game. :-)

Same issue. Will be replaced under warranty. Not the first, most likely not the last.

Must be the gale from over Hadrian's Wall... but seriously will they admit a manufacturing issue?

No issue with my 2020 and it sees all weather. Perhaps, Porsche changed suppliers due to COVID or to squeeze a few more eurocents of margin out of the cars. :P

It seems as though most of the cracking is taking place at the ends of the handle beyond where it’s attached. Has anyone who routinely pulls the handle from the center had cracking or is it something that usually happens as a result of pulling from the ends?
