Go for it. I enjoyed tracking my Porsches so much that I got my competition license and a full spec race car.

Some years ago I had a pristine 2003 E46 M3 Manual with a full Dinan Upgrade. This included exclusive wheels and tires. At Mid-Ohio, before they would let you loose on the track with a adviser next to you, both wearing helmet and headset, we did practice runs. First...go at very high speed and slam on your breaks, repeatedly. What do you think this does to the tires...they are ruined quickly. Then there is the avoidance tests of going in and out of cones. You cant avoid them and at high speed you will scuff your wheels and paint job. Everybody suffers this. Finally, you are on the track with other clueless individuals. Finder benders are common. Bad accidents are common ! You have this absolutely gorgeous new car and you are going to subject it to this ? NO WAY ! Go to a track that lets you use their cars. You will be heart broken what is left of your car if you take it to a track !
sorry but this is total nonsense. At a well run DE event, such as most Pca chapters, fender benders or bad accidents are not common, particularly in the green/yellow entry level run groups, where they are almost unheard of.

Put some painters tape on the front, get track insurance and get to know your car.

I have been tracking my cars for 8 yrs, never seen car to car contact. Cars going off track , yes. But usually in advance and intermediate groups.
Beginner/Novice group are very safe , drivers are typically with coaches.
My advice, do a trackday , enjoy it with a coach, and you will really appreciate your Porsche that much more!

Why even have it if you’re not going to take it to the track. Get insurance if you’re worried. If the engine fails its a warranty item.

it’s ridiculous to own such a car and not drive it WTF

I don't get it. If you are not going to take your Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari or whatever to the track, what is the point of having the car in the first place? Are you going to break speed limits on public roads? Drive recklessly? Get up at 2am for a canyon run? Assuming we want enjoyment from driving, why not just buy a Miata or Nissan Z or equivalent then?

It really begs the question - what is the purpose of these supercars, and why do we buy them?...Their performance envelope is so far more advanced than the sports cars of 20 years ago.

If you feel intimidated, don’t worry. There are plenty of first timers at HPDE events and they will not push you past your skill level. It will be the most fun you’ve probably ever had! Don’t worry. Just go and they will take care of you. Every one had to start at the beginning. 👍🏻

Unfortunately, all this is academic. Part of the training is classroom. Can't do that safely, now, with Covid19. When things are under control,
I will reconsider it but for now it is just solitary driving.

I'm definitely going to track mine, I'll take reasonable precautions. I'm also looking into taking it out on the Salt Flats.

Ive tracked a couple of my cars before at PIR. Fun but nothing I'd be doing regularly. Eats tires and brakes.

I don’t mind putting wear on the brakes and tires as those are replaceable items meant to undergo wear. I care more about engine failure or a major dent, etc.

Of course, if a 911 experienced engine failure at a track event then...well...shame on Porsche

Anyhow, I’m a novice so I would be accompanied by an instructor anyhow

To make sure the bubble wrap you bought doesn't go to waste?

Or to use up all those Meguiars car care products?
