Radar detector advice?
Anyone want to recommend an easy to use, quality long range radar detector? I'm looking to get one ASAP. I don't want to get a lot of annoying false alarms.
Gracias!

you can't go wrong with either the R7 or V1... I have them both, like them both; The V1 is great with the blendmount; the R7 is great with the supplied windscreen mount.
The V1 can be updated via bluetooth, but lacks a proper, intuitive screen; The R7 requires to be connected to a windows pc, but has a much easier programmable interface on the unit itself.
The R7 range is slightly superior over the V1, but the V1 is less tall than the R7.....

What do you guys think about the Uniden R3 for a cheapskate like me?
I really want a "plug it in and forget it" kind of thing. I hate having to do a lot of computer set up, this and that kind of stuff. Tech & too many features irritates the hell out of me. Simplicity and effectiveness are what I seek.

Why is a computer even having to get involved? Ugh.....
Exactly what I don't want. I don't want to create another software troubleshooting project for my already busy self. There are no radar detectors that you just plug in, turn on, and drive?
The modern era is so annoying with all of these excessive, unwanted features that half of us never asked for.....

It's how they load tons of crap onto your laptop, and sell your info, not to mention another Windows liability.
Only PC I have is for the VAG-COM and only on the net for updates. The rest are Mac and Linux boxes, agree no computer should be involved in updates.

V1 with JBV1 and waze is a great combo and plenty of helpful real time information.
You will need to run Android and not an iPhone however.
The vortex radar forums as someone above mentioned is a wealth of info and he puts out great YouTube videos also

Vortexradar.com has great info.
For plug and play, Escort Redline 360C if you want the best.
For an enthusiast choice with some more settings to modify and some really cool app connectivity options, V1 Gen 2.
Radenso Theia, if/when it comes out and if it says what they're saying it's going to do, will be the best.

The best will be Radenso Theia - was supposed to be released last year, but delayed due to COVID.
If I needed one now, I would go with the V1 Gen 2, and then sell it and upgrade once Theia comes out. I would pick the V1 over Escort because V1 always sell well on eBay.

R3 is really good to, I had in the 992, still have it in the cayenne. If you drive in long flat highways where range makes a difference, R7 has an edge. In the Chicago area I see the MRCD occasionally, which Uniden R3 and 7 detect, I don't know about others.
The whole setup and upgrades is a once or twice year business, it's not that much of a hassle. There's rumors that a future R7 upgrade will allow the automatic GPS lock on false K-band (now manual-which works fine).
Remembering that laser detection is borderline useless, shifting makes a difference but laws varies from state to state. If laser is an issue where you live and shifting is illegal (my case when I did time in TX), you have to be extra aware and hope that the laser will bounce in other cars and give you a heads up. Also, don't be a pack leader be aware of cops at a distance.

First and foremost, you really need to read the various reports on Vortexradar.com. He does a great job; the R7 wins a fair number of contests but the V1 gen 2 does well too. And since I already had a gen 1, I traded it in to get V2 and I like it a lot!
V1Connection is a free IOS app that will allow you to upgrade the software via bluetooth and provides a few other functions. But V1Driver ($9.99) is what you really want IMO; it really makes configuring the V1 easy.
