I think I'm going to pick up that mirror mount. My suction cup keeps falling off leaving my detector hanging when I start the car every time.

What about false alarms? They drive me nuts with older detectors. Does the V1 Gen 2 false alarm much?

i replaced my V1 original with the Gen2 - it will still false (in L mode) but significantly less so than i've been used to with the original V1 - if you get the app for the gen-2 on your phone and run the app while driving you can tag the false alarms so they do not repeat the next time you are in the same zone - given the areas i drive in, the falses are so minimal i'm ok without the app - i can understand others might not have the same circumstances - i think Valentine has a good return policy though (if needed)

Get a Uniden. It has built in GPS, so no app needed to run in the background. It has the longest range. And I hardly get ANY false alerts. On long lonely highways through the desert to the lake, Ive got 2 mile warning! Which is more than enough when going 90-100mph.

I'd say the same thing about the V1G2. After driving around with it with the V1 driver app on my phone for a few weeks, nearly zero faults. It lights up when it's seeing X/K band, and tells you where they are coming from, but is almost completely silent having learned via GPS lockouts. I've had V1s for over 20 years and love their upgrade program (sent in my old V1G1 a year ago for the G2). I'm sure the Unidens are as good, though I like to play around in the V1 app to control and turn on/off various alerts etc. (you don't have to but its nice to be able to). V1G2 on a blendmount is just very good when hard-wired.

The advantage of the Uniden (I have an R7) is that you don't need a smartphone to do all of that stuff. Automatic GPS lockouts, BSM filtering, multiple threats, etc are all handled within the detector. There's a crap ton of options that you can configure. https://www.vortexradar.com/2019/04/...adar-detector/

I think that the app support for the V1 is awesome. Apps like JBV1 provide a wild amount of data that augment the detector, but there's something to be said for a device that does it all using only one connection to power.

It's tough in crowded areas because of all of the radar usage on new vehicle driving systems.

On the top of the line detectors (Escort Max360, Uniden R7, and V1G2), the blind spot monitoring (BSM) filtering is quite good now, especially with the latest firmware updates.

Yeah my Uniden is perfect for my needs. It’s simple and it alerts me well in advance. I don’t do a lot of highway driving but when I’m just out and about misbehaving on the road, it gives me that chirp warning for Ka bands that I always need.

I have a V1G2 and a Radenso Pro M.

The ProM gives great advance warning and far fewer false alarms. If that is your priority, as it is mine, I give it very high marks, and (knocks wood) no tickets in the 10 months I've had it.

I gave the V1G2 to my son to use.

if u want a less expensive option there's a semi permanent mount that uses 3m adhesive, it's nothing more than a small metal bracket that u stick to the window. I think it 10 bucks and have read a lot of people have no complaints with it...found the link. I use a mirror tap and suction lock clamp on the S8, the bracket below with mirror tap on my suv and haven't figured out the tap on my 01 cab yet.

Nice. Actually I think I can do that with the current bracket minus the two small cups. I'll try that.

I still use my 25ish year old V1 that's never been upgraded, and it's still doing its job. On a recent cross country trip there were several times when Waze didn't indicate a police car up ahead, but the Valentine saved me.

Honestly, we are living in great times. Almost any reputable radar detector and Waze is a powerful combo.

I can see that a lot of posts in these threads are from US chaps. According to Wiki - radar detectors seem to be legal in most US states?

Anyone using one in a state or country where they're not legal? Particularly anyone from Portugal or Spain?
