Default How much does the average buyer add in options?

I'm pricing out a new Targa 4S. I got to thinking about options, and how Porsche temps you into adding a fairly large % into the base price.
Sure, I understand, get what you want, and don't worry about it. I"m just curious as how much you spend on your build, above the base price.
I'm also curious if the % added varies a lot with the model picked out. Do "S" buyers add more than "Targa" buyers?

My build was about 160k, with 25k in options.
On a base price car of $135.2, that equates to 18% above base.

Thoughts from the gallery?

cheers,
NAV

This thread has good data on average MSRPs per model: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1230...age-msrps.html. It also points to vinanalytics data: https://vinanalytics.com/collections/992/

I remember seeing that the average Porsche buyer adds $17k in options to their base MSRP. My last 2019 991 GTS, I added about $25k of options. My 21 992 Carrera S, I added about $24k of options.

Base price on my car was $119,300...configured price $140,860...just a shade more than 18% above base. Average MSRP for the 64 Canadian 2020 C4s built was $141,634/median MSRP $141,622.

I was bored so I scraped the data off the VINAnalytics site for all the 992 models. The data is probably not complete (Porsche delivered a total of 18,105 911s in 2019 and 2020, and this only contains 12,742 vehicles), but I think it is a decent starting point.

My 2021 S Cab stickered at $ 159,400. it was off the showroom, I didn't order it.

After a month with the car the only option I would remove if I were ordering would be the $ 290 Porsche Crest on Headrests. Every other option, absolutely worth it. My prior 2014 Cab S was a barebones stripper, I said "I can live with it and save the money, I'll probably only keep it 2 years". Well, I kept it 6 years 9 months and most every day I owned it I said "I will never buy another one of these again based on budget"

No wonder the TTS gets a bad rep for resale. $30.5k in options! Money down the drain come resale time.

Ironically, the TTS pretty much comes loaded with all the essentials, stock.

Yeah, though as a percentage of base MSRP it is not very high (compared to the same $30k on a C4S). I feel like once the base car crosses the $200,000 mark, the clientele changes and "the money no object, I'll get what I want" folks are much better represented.

You're probably right. I'm looking to keep my TTS build <$220k, but I seem to be the exception. Most builds on RL are a good bit more expensive.

122 out of the 842 cars are <$220k, so you'll be in good company. Agreed that most TTS options are just cosmetic and you really don't need much -- maybe SPASM and Sport Exhaust (and this is coming from someone with a $240k+ TTS build on a boat right now ).

Yup, the Targa 4 is probably the one of the rarest mainstream production 911 (along with a Carrera 4 GTS Cab?). The 991.2 production numbers reflected the same thing: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1100...l#post15580785

Be aware it looks like the Options averages column includes the 1350 delivery fee which really isn't an option.

I ended up spending $43k in options (CAD). Haven’t driven it yet and am praying I didn’t forget to choose anything “crucial”.

With options to some extent becoming standard as you move up in base price, it's interesting how, with the exception of the base models, average option cost falls within a pretty narrow range. So the effective option cost is higher for more expensive models. Porsche seems to know us pretty well.

For me a 992 is a luxury item so I threw some things into my 2S that I accept are for my enjoyment for however long I have the car. The option total for my 2S is $32,000 and it includes some things I find really cool and can't wait to enjoy.
