I don't think the leather square looks terrible at all but I could see there being a market for a shifter boot that's more circular and a little smaller with a new trim panel. I bet with deviated stitching it looks better. The french seams in it are triple stitched that's quality work.
Personally, I hate the shaver. Completely ruins the car for me. Every time I start lusting after a 992TTS and build on on the configurator, I get disgusted and nope out once the interior shots show up, remembering again why I'm not interested.
I love the new 992 GT3 shifter; those of you declaring it a "faux manual" are overlooking that fact that the auto stick from its inception, was a faux manual. Many manufacturers make their auto shifters with a leather boot, that would be easily confused with a manual if you didn't look at the markings. I couldn't disagree more that it's fake in some way.
Hopefully Porsche's direction is to move away from it.
It's not a question of a leather boot. The PDK shifter in my Macan has one (and now my 981S does too.) The GT3 shifter is just trying too hard overall to imitate a "real" manual shifter.
Form traditionally follows function in the German school, but Porsche has been increasingly throwing that principle out the window. The nubbin is offensive from a design perspective not just because of its form, which will always be a matter of opinion, but because it doesn't have a function once the car is under way.
If they weren't going to allow you to shift gears with it, in other words, they shouldn't have even attempted to make it look like a console shifter (cf. the 918, where it's mounted out of the way on the dashboard). At least the new GT3 design doesn't have that drawback. I don't care for it myself, but it's a venial sin compared to the nubbin.
Has anyone been able to claim replacement of a cracked shifters under warranty?
Dealer is saying it is not covered and doesn't seem to care that this is a common issue.
I searched Rennlist as I have that issue now and found that a lot of you have this issue as well.
I did.
As a rule of thumb, if something can be photographed or generates a code on PIWIS, warranty claims are feasible. I got mine replaced in a dealer that is particularly annoying with warranty claims.

I hate the dust too....but what works well is a can of compressed air the same stuff you use on computer key boards. Don't shake the can as it will shoot out frozen liquid. Hope this helps.
Can anyone who has had this problem think of a reason why this may be happening in their particular case: excessive sun/ excessive heat/ excessively hard shifting / anything other than poor manufacturing ? My cab locks in 3 weeks and am worried a bit, yet I don’t particularly care for the aluminum billet shifter.

It did for me too until I took a ride in my friend's PDK-equipped 911 and was blown away at how good that transmission is. I can overlook its appearance shortcomings now. Look at Ferrari, they don't make the lever to look much better but hey, it's a Ferrari with an F1-inspired gearbox so I'm sure I could rise above my dislike for it too if I had to. lol
