Default Placed an Order for C2S no build date

I was so excited I when placed a factory order for a C2S a month ago (put a sizeable deposit down) but the excitement has been dampened as I still don't have a build date.
Dealer is saying there is no update from Germany as the global demand for 911's have gone through the roof and with lock downs in place I have to be very very patient.
BTW that was not the case before I placed the deposit down !!!

Does this sound right? I live in Australia.

Sounds like you have a placeholder to get an allocation, not an actual allocation (which come with “order lock” dates and delivery dates).

Allocations were recently distributed. I'd be fairly sure that your dealer got some cars, but if he has a big list of buyers or VIPs then you could be waiting awhile. It couldn't hurt to call around to different dealers. Now is the time, because dealers may have cars to sell.

Yep, you are now “on the list” for an allocation. I was due a Jan/Feb 2021 build after putting down my £5k in August, but it seems either a bit of dealer horse trading or someone pulling out got me an earlier allocation in November and it arrived in the UK just after Christmas.
I’m expecting delivery some time in the next few weeks as dealers are on a go slow what with New Year and covid.

You may get lucky and an allocation will come up, as said demand is far outstripping supply at the moment, although after a few dealer trips of late the SA did say they are selling all the new cars be it dealer spec or client built but quite a few clients have been pulling out at the last minute on new builds with “financial difficulties”.

All dealer allocations will have a commission number from Porsche to identify the build in their system.
Your dealer will be able to issue your commission number only when your allocation is confirmed. Until then you are on a list.
Given the sizeable deposit paid, I'd be looking for my commission number.

Even though you’re in Australia your dealer is right in that PCA will be fighting every other country distributor for production slots. But my recollection from buying cars in Australia and now in the US is that the allocation system between dealers is different in Australia, plus some ‘dealers’ are actually factory owned whereas others are franchises. In the end though a factory commission number is what you need to see.

I think demand is high and supply small. My small dealer said for 2021 likely get 10 911 allocation and already has 10 people who want to order.

Thanks for the feed back, I really appreciate all the assistance
Correct, seems like the dealer has exhausted all their allocations for 2021 and have asked PCA for more allocations.
As a matter if interest the afternoon before the deposit was paid I was quoted April/June build, next morning it jumped to June/July , and now its MIA ( LOL)

Maybe they are just overwhelmed with all the orders and are trying to make good of a crazy situation, but in all honesty I feel the process should have been more transparent with delivery dates ( or is this normal....hello! )
So the question is
Do I have an offical order ? I'm guessing no
If requested, could my deposit be refundable prior to a stock allocation number ?
Could I find out where on the list I'm placed ? I'm guessing maybe, but thats up to the discretion of the dealer if he fiddles with the placement on list.
Is a stock number that same as a commission number ?
or am I waiting for a VIN number ?

Unless things work very differently in Australia, they shouldn’t have taken your “sizeable deposit” if they didn’t have an allocation. Without an allocation/build, you basically just have a place in line. Usually, a smaller deposit would have sufficed to hold your place in line until they got an actual allocation.

You can ask. The question is, how reliable is this information? How solid is this spot? You may be X on the list, until one of the big customers calls. Then you are X+1.

Right now you probably have an "Order Demand" which is a v070 status. What you are looking for is a v200 status. When you have a build sheet with YOUR name on it and a V200 vehicle status - then you know you have a "real" configurable allocation. The header would look like below with your information and the dealer info in the redacted areas.

There is a warm and fuzzy feeling you get with that v200 build sheet. Then you know things are really happening. Good luck.

Regardless of the legal obligation it’d be a pretty short sighted dealer who wouldn’t refund it, assuming of course that they can’t actually secure an allocation for you. Unfortunately though rights for refunds in Australia are generally far less consumer friendly than in the US so you may want to tread carefully on this one and if necessary get some advice.

It seems like everyone is speculating about the allocation availability. Can anyone actually confirm that there were CS2 allocation given to dealers around Christmas? I've had a deposit down since last July and feel like there is no real information out there. I talk to my SA as well as the dealership Manager and they tell me there are no CS2 allocations at all but just be patient. Even if an allocation showed up today, it would be a Summer delivery which makes it about a year since I put down my deposit. This is beyond frustrating... not sure if it matters, but I'm getting a C2S Cab with a Manual Transmission....Anyone have any insight to what types of allocations might be coming now that we're actually in 2021??

I laid down my deposit in Dec 2020 when i found a dealer that had an allocation. I received my commission number same time I provided my deposit and also was provided a screenshot from the Porsche Msnagement Ordering Software Program. I know I have a 992 C2S coming..

I’d be shopping at other dealers if I were you.

My dealer in SE Qld told me no 911 allocations till March. Only new 911 floor stock is a C2 Cab. As far as deposit is concerned if you have a properly signed contract then you are both bound by its terms - if you haven’t signed anything you can ask for it back.
