Default SSD drive in 992

How is it possible that the 992 has no SSD drive to store movies or music? It used to be in911.2 I had before.

Yesterday's technology. Slap a SD card into it, same result.

moving SD cards of a specific size and format is such a pain sometimes. But this is the only way nowadays

Well, the internal storage in the 991 was small and non-portable. Go buy a 256gb SDTest card for $25.

My 2018 audi has a built in storage, and it was the first thing I noticed when I got the 992. However after using a SD card I find it more simple to use. Instead of using the SD card to load into the storage I can just keep it on the SD card eliminating the one step.

I’d like to know also why the 992 has no cassette player.

I have a bunch ABBA tapes I’d like to listen to.

In my 911.1 I don’t remember I had SSD but I had it in my 911.2. I don’t think it is obsolete technology like cassettes. After all our computers at home use hard disks and not SD cards as their main storage media.

It’s because Porsche is run by people that can’t figure things out and need us to tell them the right way to do things.

Actually many of today's computer and laptops are moving to SSD (solid state drives) for storage because they are faster and much more reliable than hard drives with moving parts. The price of SSDs has dropped to become mainstream. And similar to cameras, which use SD cards for storage not hard drives, automobiles have a smaller storage requirement and therefore SD cards are sufficient and well-suited. Hard drives also require an extra step to load music, which must be done via SD (so why not just use and keep the SD in place) or ripping CDs (which are obsolete these days for music).

yes of course SSD is also what the Porsche had as well, so I am only referring to SSDs

I used to transfer new music regularly to my Porsche internal storage drive and did that with a USB stick. It worked well.

Anyway we no longer have access to this storage but I am still surprised that only up to 128GB of SD is supported.

Agreed, local drives are not as old fashioned as cassettes (yet) but they are definitely going that way regardless of whether they are SSD or spinners. Where they remain it'll mainly be for caching content that is primarily cloud hosted.

Thinking through this a little, turns out 2 of our daily use cars have onboard hard drives but we really don't use them. Either we stream, use a plugged in iPod. or use CarPlay.
