Default Getting nervous about changing silver lettering to black

Ok, call me OCD or paranoid.

But this is a nearly $150k sticker value car (I got a break in price).

I am going to the dealer to have the “Porsche” and “911 Carrera S” removed from factory silver and replaced with new black ones.

I’m getting cold feet and thinking about cancelling.

What if the new lettering isn’t secure? What if they aren’t placed right? What if the winter weather affects their ability to be affixed properly?

What if this is a huge mistake?

I want the new color but I’m worried! I might cancel the job. Anybody wanna change my mind?

Every manufacturer uses the same 3M emblem tape. It sticks pretty well. If you don't like it take it off, If you do like it leave it.

Every dealer has a template and it will be factory exact in placement.

https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/vhb-tapes-us/

You just spent $150K - the $3 in tape will hold......

It's an easily rectifiable dilemma. If you decide you dont like it, put the silver badges back on. You could swap them yourself with dental floss or fishing line. It's not a big deal to swap emblems. Certainly a lot easier to do now than on the 991. With the 991 you had to stick each letter. With the 992, they are all the same badge (except the Porsche cut out above the bumper)

Try Plasti-dip. Go on U-Tube and watch how to apply and you will have your answer to the black or silver question. I have used "Hot Rod" Black and like the matt Black effect. The coating peels right off if you change your mind.

No big deal

If you're nervous about it, just do it yourself. I changed out the letters on my 993 recently (individual letters at that). All you need is patience, masking taper and ruler. It's not rocket science.

I’m not worried about the color

I’m worried that the new letters won’t stick as well as the factory ones do

Don't worry. They will stick just fine.

How much are you paying the dealership to do this? I'm still working on my build and I'm on the fence about ordering it from the factory. It's surprisingly expensive to order it for the build.

^ About $700 or so for the letters, about $200 for the labor.

Gosh nobody ever said Porsches are cheap!

^ I think those were the prices I was also quoted. The guy in parts spouted off "300ish" numbers for both and I just added them together to $700 (for my mental preparedness). So I don't think my price is too different

I haven't done it myself, but from seeing others do it, might be worth just doing plastidip. As I'm playing around with my build, it seems like there are better items to put the $700 towards (just for me personally).

Not a bad idea, although I will admit I'm not very much a DIY kinda guy. I'm literally scared of touching my car given how expensive it was.

If I do the Plastidip route, however, I'm concerned that by canceling I will **** off the dealership since they've already ordered the new lettering and the appointment is tomorrow morning.

Not a difficult process for any dealer. They have a Porsche template to do and logo placement.
