Current pricing
I know this has been covered tons, but just spot checking the current market. What kind of discounts are people getting on 992 orders they are placing in December? I'm thinking about a C4S. I know inventory is tight (esp in metro-NYC).

In this market consider yourself lucky if you can get an allocation at all. Not talking promise of one but an actual Commission number. Then if you can get yourself a 3% discount consider yourself very lucky and then anything above that is icing on the cake
Also consider searching in the midwest as your chances of an allocation and a discount go up significantly but factor in transportation and your comfort level with buying out of area.
If you want the car buy it. For an averagely spec'd 4S the difference between 3% and 5% is going to come down to a couple of $K and not to say that it is not better in your pocket than the dealers but at the end of the day in 4, 5 or 6 years time do you think it will matter. The flip side is waiting forever for the perfect deal might have you car-less for another year or two

End of October I got allocation. 4S with mid April delivery. 6.25% discount. 3 dealers all within a short drive competing for my deposit.

I was told 5% at one dealer, MSRP at an other NYC area. This was just with sending email/text asking for 7% off...both said June-July timeframe for delivery. This was for a coupe. I did not ask about convertible/targa.

Got allocation for Targa S4. Discount off MSRP was just under 2% after decent amount of back and forth.
Delivery scheduled for end of April.
Happy to have one. Called 5 dealerships in the area and only one dealer was able to come through. Would have paid full priced, but this small discount does make me feel that little bit better about myself and my negotiating skills :-)

You seem like you are all over the place - pricing, discounts, etc. - M8 vs 911, etc. We probably have all be there one time or another. I would recommend waiting. Take a month or three to consider what you want, forget about a few K as that while not an insignificant amount of money... It is if you do not get what you want.
Why not wait for a month or so, consider getting a nice used 911.2 variant of your choice, and if you do not like it, you probably will not loose much as you bought used and didn't take a hit in depreciation. Better yet, if you are new to Porsche, buy a few year old one with CPO. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and would not regret it. My first porsche was a 1978 911 SC targa, bought my Sr. Year in college (12 year old car at the time) $10K. It treated me well for 7-8 years (not one issue minus oil changes and tires and 30K miles), and I sold it and bought a new one, got more than I paid for it. No harm in getting a few year old model, and see if you like it.
While our opinions can help with the threads your are posting, take a step back and think of what you want.

I just set someone up for a C2S for delivery in Spring 2021. 5.5% of out-the-door price (not MSRP).
