I don't buy my cars to listen to music so I'm probably not the best source. The 992, particularly in sport or sport + is pretty loud. Even in normal mode there's a good amount of tire noise and some exhaust sound and the PSE is fairly loud.. That being the case, the Bose is more than adequate for my needs. I'm sure that the upgrade to the Burmester is very nice but it just isn't worth it to me. Maybe if I was driving a car that is quiet inside, it might be worth it but the 992 isn't that car. I might add that I don't listen to the radio at extreme loud levels so I have no problem with door rattles even with the bass cranked up to +6. I mostly use Sirius or Spotify so the compressed signals would't lend themselves to the upgrade either.

You can overcome road noise with a properly tuned DSP system with a real subwoofer and good mid bass integration.
Good non boomy bass that fill the cabin sets the foundation for music. The highs won’t need to be tuned higher in volume and will be cleaner.
shops like to tune the sound flat...but that sounds like garbage. System tuning is an art form that most shops can’t do well. You will need to spend 8-10k on a good system install.
The Burmester system in the 992 is not very good and doesn’t compare to a good after market system.

of 72 or higher in the 992, the Bose is good enough.

I've almost always had aftermarket stereo systems installed in most of my cars. I'm curious as to which system is easiest to upgrade. I've heard it is easier to integrate amplifiers, DSPs, and replace speakers in a Bose system than it is in Burmester. Does anybody who upgraded their systems have any advice on this? I'm leaning towards Bose because it seems like it's good enough in a pinch and it's anecdotally easier to upgrade in the long run. Any truth to this? Thanks.

The Burmester and Bose systems not have the bass quality or SPL to overcome the road noise.
You will probably want to spec the Bose because you will want the fiber optic connection capability from the PCM via a NAVTV interface to an aftermarket DSP.
Trust me...you need a good sub and mid bass components to properly overcome the road noise.
My F30 on older run flats just as noisy if not more so than a 992.
I replaced the Harmon Kardon in my car, which sounded much better than the Bose in the 992 at a standstill. But once the car started moving...the Harmon Kardon fell apart and sound like *** especially on the freeway.
My aftermarket system is worlds better
I don’t need to crank my system to be completely consumed and enveloped in the sound and soundstage on the freeway.
This is because of a properly tuned DSP system a with real Subs and mid bass drivers. In addition to better tweeters and mid range drivers.

Also...I spoke to my stereo guy. He says the believes the 2021 992 Burmester is different than the 2020 and it now uses a different audio interface which makes it much harder to integrate into an aftermarket DSP.
After market support for integration seems to be limited to MOST150...which the Bose uses.
But I’m still trying to confirm this with the dealer.

Where Porsche improved both Bose and Bermester systems over the 991, they screwed up royally with more plasticky, thinner door panels. The biggest issue plaguing the new systems is the panels. These cars need dynamat badly and that will only go so far. The plasticky grills attached to plasticky panels with plasticky mirror covers create way too much bass vibration to the point where you almost think you have blown speakers (maybe you do?).

I’m sure you can custom in a great sounding system in a 992 but it would take a lot of stabilizing and deadening to do it. I’d rather hear the exhaust whereas at home I’ve gone to great lengths to get good sound. The Bose is fine just don’t expect greatness, it’s adequate ok-ness.

I also hit a wall with audio. People here seem to fall into one of two camps on whether or not it matters, but for me on the occasional drive down the coastline, having an engaging soundtrack makes a huge difference.
Similar to Mattex above, went with an Audison amp and speaker set. 2 tweeters, 2 4" midrange, 2 8" sub, 2 4" coaxial, 8x85 amp. Everything installed in factory locations (amp hidden under the passenger seat) and reversible. ~$4k installed.
There were options to jump up a step in adding 10" subs and more power if that is your thing (hidden in a custom shelf that sits flush with the back sets on the rear shelf) that pushed things another few thousand.
