Paint to Sample

Paint to Sample
For anyone here who has previously done PTS on a 911, were you ultimately satisfied years later? Did you feel like it was a worthwhile investment/spend, or did the long term pleasure of a (semi) unique color fail to justify the price?
I tend to favor lower optioned cars, with features more geared towards sporty driving vs. luxury or tech. I always said I would never pay for a PTS color, instead investing that money on extra tires and track time.
God help me, I can't help looking through the PTS sample catalog on rennbow and feeling tempted by some of those wonderful color. Talk me off the ledge, please.

I know what the term is, even if he misspelled it - I just don't what an unfinishable task has to do with choosing paint on a car.

I think he meant that it will feel like a Sisyphean task because you will put in a tremendous amount of effort and might never get what you want, or at the very least it will be a huge effort and it might take the fun out of the end result (see thread on delivery date for 2021 models :-)
From what I've gathered the process can be incredibly frustrating and ultimately unsatisfying in terms of the process. However, your question was actually about the quality of the paint and the enjoyment of having a (semi) unique color.
IMO, if you are prepared for a lot of frustration and a long time to get what you want, as well as the crazy (to me) cost, then you should go for it. Having a PTS car is one of the ultimate boxes to check in Porsche ownership (again--IMO!).

Sitting on my desk is the green 911 matchbox car I played with as a child 45 years ago. When I gave my childhood toys to my own son, it was the only one I pulled out to keep for myself - it has always been my favorite. Is $11,430 too much to pay to drive the car of my childhood dreams? Maybe not ...

Okay, I think I get that. I can understand the extra hoops to jump through, and although I'm not in a rush I get impatient when the date gets close like everyone else. I just didn't understand (nor do I get the reference) that it is a task that is never completed. In any event, I agree that paying that much just to get a different color is ridiculous on its face - but as you said, everyone should probably own a PTS Porsche at some point.

You should read through this immense post on the 991 GT3 forum to get a sense of the frustration that you can expect if you go the PTS route.

Good luck.
