Default VIN question

Ok so weird question. But I just received my VIN for my 911 C2 and it says the HP is 370. I thought HP was 379 for the 992 C2? Why the discrepancy?

not sure - it says it's a 991 series. So the info in the site I found for VIN lookup is probably not 100% correct

well vinanalytics says my car was produced 11/9/2020. So I sure hope this isn't my build that was finished 9/11/20 lol

The HP number listed is what is called the "Tax Horsepower". It has little if any value unless your vehicle license registration cost is calculated based on this number. An explanation can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_horsepower

PS is Metric Horsepower sometimes called DIN Horsepower. To covert PS to SAE Horsepower: divide the PS Number by 0.9863 -or- to convert SAE Horsepower to PS multiply the SAE Horsepower by 0.9863.

If you do the math you will find you are unable to to make 370 equal 379 nor will you be able to make 379 equal 370. This is because the Tax Horsepower is a completely different formula.

Makes sense. is there any real value to having the VIN anyway?

I'm wondering if they mean dd/mm/yyyy? So it would actually be 9/11/2020?

Possibly for insurance purposes, getting it on your policy on the first day you have it, financing purposes, etc. Probably so that people know they actually have their car built. That's about it.

Here's a link to an Edmunds Web Site that goes through how and what a VIN is good for and/or can be used to figure out.
