If you have an iPhone and have upgraded to iOS 14, you have a new Car Play. There are three screens of apps in my case, the most interesting is Google Maps. Plenty of Apple websites review the new features.

I don't know if it's because of iOS 14 or what, but this system is the most responsive I've ever used with regard to Siri. I hear Siri's audio chime right after hitting the voice-command button and the system picks up my voice immediately when I start to speak. On other systems, I'll hold the button down and then a few seconds later, I'll hear maybe half of the audio chime and when I start to talk it will almost always screw up the voice recognition.

Can you clarify what you mean by “3 screens”? I’ve been running 14 since the public beta - I forgot what they introduced 😆

My apps take up three screens. (Actually two full screens and half of a third.).

The dashboard screen? I thought that was in 13. In any case, it’s nice that Google Maps can appear on that screen now.

But these “food ordering” apps are MIA.

edit: NVM, guessing you mean there are now so many apps it takes that many screens. I hadn’t noticed that many new ones personally.

The number of apps that show in Car Play depend on the apps you have installed and whether they support Car Play.

Apple CarPlay seems the same to me except performance seems to be a bit snappier since the iOS 14 update. That seems to happen a lot with iPhones after updating them.

Hence my confusion. I wasn’t aware of any new ones taking advantage of the new categories specifically (other than maybe EV charging, which doesn’t apply to me).

I too can report on improved snappiness and performance with iOS 14. Clearly, they did some work with CarPlay under the hood.

newbie question.....how do i activate the carplay?

i seemed to have had it before, but it disappeared and went back to normal

open the device manager- it's on the far left scrolling menu on the PCM screen. assuming your phone has already been paired with the car, you'll see the carplay option. touch the carplay symbol to turn it on.

Everyone knows the CarPlay apps are controlled by your iPhone right? And you delete and/or reorder the way the apps appear on the PCM screen from your phone's Settings menu: General > CarPlay > device name > Customize
