I don't know if I should bring this up. I'm a new guy on the block. I love my 992. It's been a childhood dream to own one. But I wonder why they are so expensive, I mean 6 figures expensive and the sun visors don't extend out to adequately shade you from an afternoon sun. Or the lack of a key fob start function. I like this on my Nissan to cool they car down a few minutes before I sit in it. Have I missed this in the owners manual? I think we covered the comfort access system, I found that if I stick my hand under the handle twice it usually works fine. But why do some lesser cars have more creature comforts.
I thank my maker that I have this 992. It is an outstanding car, far above others. And the acceleration and handling is phenomenal. I can't wait till I get over 2k on the odometer so I can take it up to 7 grand.

If I'm the lone wolf on this one please forgive my rambling. I'm just listing the help from others that know the heritage far better than me.

You're not the only one. My wife's CRV came with all (and then some) of the electronics that I had to option on my C2S. That and the Lane Keep Assist function on her car actually works quite well. The Tesla's we looked at are simply head and shoulders above the 911 in this area. When it comes to the Remote Start capability, my 8 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee came with that as standard equipment. None of these are/were deal breakers for me. However, it does seem that Porsche may be putting the accounting department ahead of the marketing and engineering departments. IMHO this is a significant detriment to the value of the brand. In the present day, it certainly does reduce the fun and pride value I perceive with the car. My analogy would be as if you went to purchase a high end computer system, but the mouse (unique to and required by this particular computer system) was a rather expensive option. On top of this, the mouse didn't have and wasn't available with a wheel.

AFAIK Porsche doesn't offer remote start in anything because they don't want you to warm the engine by idling it. Starting the engine and driving the car immediately warms the oil more quickly, reduces the amount of time cold oil is flowing through the engine, which in turn reduces wear and risk for things like bore scoring.

the two things that make me scratch my head:
1. no built in wireless charging pad (had to add an amazon special to center console to fake it)
2. no real homelink button (i've gotten use to the steering wheel button or GPS triggering the PCM based deal, but there should be an actual button one can press)
otherwise all good to me. especially the driving part.

Although I'm sure there are some examples that will keep this from being an absolute statement, in general Porsche has always been behind when it comes to creature comforts/non-driving-oriented technology. But generally we don't buy them for those options, but we buy them in spite of the lack of those options.

As soon as I had my first Porsche I was hooked. These are amazing cars! Are they missing (or charging extra for) a bunch of crap that's standard on $30K cars? YES. Some of it is a bit of a kick in the pants, but I guess that's the price of admission.

Lane Change Assist is a safety feature found on far cheaper cars that should totally be standard on a Carrera.

Normal cars sell based on the tech and features. Porsche sells based on the driving experience and they add a couple of these things in, typically at an additional cost.

Guess I just don't get this. Porsche offers world-class handling/performance in a package exquisitely balanced to also be a comfortable daily driver. Every kilogram for the latter impacts the former. Electronic complications often decrease driver engagement and, frankly, reliability. If one values comfort, perhaps the 911 is not an ideal choice. Think of it this way: we pay $$ and learn to live with certain aspects not because of what it is, but what it is capable of . . .

I think that Lane Change Assist should be legally standard on all cars and a zero cost option. But then again manufacturers will just bake the price into the MSRP. Still, I believe no car should be leaving production without it. It's very, very useful and can save many lives.

For me it’s not about what’s missing. Not my daily driver so more than enough creature comforts. What does drive me just a little bit crazy are that some things seem a little unnecessarily “over-engineered” ... homelink (just give me a button like I had in my 991) and the pop out door handles (I don’t have comfort access so the user experience for me is even more klunky). But look, I’m nitpicking. These are amazing vehicles.

I do think many of these options missing are stupid that they are not standard for the price point being paid, I am not silver coating it by paying compliments on other things, Porsche need to put lane change in standard or ministries we live in need to mandate it. Also other options should be standard. It's the highest profit making car company and they are charging for things that will alienate there customer base.. Let's be real

Meh. I doubt it.

Porsche does their options a la carte. If you're really into tons of fruity options then you're going to pay for it. The flip side is you can pick and choose what you want. If you want a car with strictly performance features and nothing else...you got it.

I really could not care less about Lane change assist or radar cruise control or night vision, 360 camera, etc. It's a small sports car. It's not that hard to maneuver.

"This stuff should be free" is what you might say and maybe you're right. It is what it is. I don't see people NOT buying a Porsche because they don't include all that junk.
