Things that I miss that are standard on less expensive cars

A lot of the "stuff" mentioned , with the exception of LC assist, does not age well especially in a car when out of warranty can cost $190 - $250 per labor hour. Also some of it like remote starting and letting a high performance car sit and idle instead of driving just isn't good for the car. Drive a 6-10 year old Porsche 911 and most if not all the stuff you need is still working and telling you what's going on in your car. Drive a well kept 993, 997 or 10 year old 991.
My car is 6 years old nudging 40k miles and still looks and runs like new without any unnecessary gadgets that don't make it better to drive.

I might be in the minority here, but I’ve learned to appreciate Porsche letting their customers decide what they want to spec or forego. It may cost you, but it helps personalize a vehicle to your taste. As I’d personally hate having a 911 with all the nannies they offer as “standard”. You can have a bare bones car, sporty & performance oriented, or a luxury GT. Not many mfgs have that ability, and it truly makes a personal spec one of a kind. YMMV

I do not want any of the nannies - none; especially not on my 911. At the risk of tempting fate, I have never wrecked a car or anyone else's backing up, changing lanes, rear ending, not using cruise control properly, etc. Swivel your head and use your eyes as well as your blinkers; its the best nanny device in the world. Be aware.
Now, I did total my mom's car when I was 17 via a head on collision with a stubborn oak tree, but cut me some slack, the very attractive young woman with me in the passenger seat had taken off her shirt and bra. I really I wish I had that night as a do-over. A hot tub time machine would be nice.

Porsche is a luxury item.
It is not a utilitarian object.
You buy a Timex and you can get all sorts of fancy stuff -- thermometer, compass, water and shock resistance, etc. Not to mention accuracy pinned to GPS and maybe even solar charging.
You buy a Patek? You're lucky if it's accurate to within 5 seconds a day, COSC notwithstanding. But, heck, it is a Patek.

However NONE of them give me the absolute THRILL of just going for a drive like my 911; not .. even .. close. I am thrilled that Porsche allows me to use my touch screen while I'm actually driving instead of forbidding it because I'm presumed to be an idiot and that I can easily update my WAZE app. I glad it is NOT over-burdened with a wealth of other intrusive "idiot driver" nannies as well that I flat out don't need or want.
My name is Russ, and I'm a 911 addict.

I get the gripe. I had an Audi RS vehicle and traded for my Porsche. The Audi was light years ahead of my Porsche as far as tech goes...but I drive my Porsche twice as much because it’s just so dang much more fun. Also, is it a Porsche thing, to not have or charge extra for these things, or a Carrera thing? I really don’t know but I would hope that some of the other, more domesticated models like the sedan and SUV’s come with this stuff?

Porsche should offer a "tech package" bundling thi sstuff at a significantly reduced price - maybe a 1 and 2 package that builds on each other as well as price.

That would be an excellent idea! My guess would be that Porsche is locked into multiple contracts with numerous outside suppliers for these "tech packages". The problem(s) this creates is that not all of these "packages" get along with each other electronically. Often an OEM will try to source each feature individually or one of their suppliers does this unbeknownst to the OEM. They all do this on the assumption that they can get the best pricing by following the same strategy that they pursue with other outside sourced components. The problems arise when each supplier, and/or each suppliers subcontractors assure the OEM that "their" system is compatible with everyone else's system "that they know of" and therein lies the caveat/escape hatch. In the end what usually occurs, amounts to software conflicts that endless "patches" never seem to resolve and/or simply result in the exchange of one issue for another which drive the end consumer to distraction.

Not standard, but my friend just bought a Mazda sedan with Heads Up Display as an option. It is the only thing I miss in this car; loved it in my BMWs. Not just really cool, but also great for safety.

None of the sports cars (911s, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, McLarens) have HUDs. I read somewhere that current HUD systems doesn’t work when the windscreen angle is too raked, since it relies on the image being reflected By the windscreen glass.

I bought a new '75 911 that came with only a left-side door mirror. I didn't even notice the passanger door mirror was absent until my drive home from the dealership. My Army buddies gave me crap, "You spent $9,000 on a car with only one door mirror?" The Datsun 260Z I traded in had both door mirrors. A few months after I bought the car, the mirror broke off at the pivot point. Go figure.

I don't want stuff like Lane Assist. But I do want everyone else driving around me to have it. With a 911, less is more.

You've highlighted one of the real oddities of the Porsche and PCM in particular. I think Audi's MMI is one of the best interfaces on the market (although second to BMW's iDrive). Audi (along with Merc) also has the best digital cockpit. So I don't understand why Audi's technology - with all its greatness - hasn't been re-skinned for Porsche. Buy a Mini or a Roller and you get a re-skinned iDrive interface. Why isn't VW doing the same with Porsche and Audi??
