Maintenance and reliability of rear wheel/axle steering system?
#76
I would be interested to know if a dealer ever fesses up to a known problem (recalls aside). I've been in a couple of times to fix problems well known here (well, the 991 forum) and the service greeter always acts like it's the first they've ever even heard of the problem.

I think people worry too much.
RWS steering (at least the technology) has been around since the late 1980s with the introduction of the Honda Prelude in 1987. That's probably before many of you here were even born, or probably still a virgin.
Porsche isn't reinventing the wheel here.

I have no evidence that indicates there are any reliability issues withe the RAS.
I don’t think the analogy with emissions recalls is valid, since every car sold in the US has one. Not even remotely the case with RAS. I believe there has to be a threshold Number before a national recall is issued.

RAS is excellent and makes car feel super responsive, sorry I don't have it on my 992 but enjoy it on the 991.2 T
for some reason not ordered as much on 992 which is a shame. Without it car does feel a little more traditional but it should be really stock on all 992 unlike pdcc which makes car feel artificial

So much misinformation and guessing. Not pointing out anyone, just sayin. My "Guess" is that there are thousands and thousands of P cars with the system. At least for the 992 model, I've read as many post on PDK failure as I have RWS (which is like 1). Post #22 "how long have they been doing electric steering at the front of the car reliably" is the best point made on this thread. Also, why can't we put a nail in the battery correlation? The battery issue some experience is not because of the "Battery", AGM or Lithium, and hopefully has been resolved by software update???
