Default 992 backfire

the owner's manual says backfire is activated in Sport mode only. my question is how do i "feel" this from the car? to me the car sounds the same whether it is in normal or sport mode. what can i do to really experience the backfire?

You hear it. It goes "pop pop pop" every time you left off the accelerator. It's not quite as preprogrammed (and terrible) sounding as it was in the 991.2 but it's still a little Subaru esque. Sport Plus exhaust is better.

The higher the load/rpm when you come off the throttle, the more pronounced the sound is.

Exactly.

Get on the throttle hard, wind it up to 7,000 rpm or more, and then back off, If you have the windows down, you’ll hear a lovely crackle.

Very easy in manual mode, where you can hold out the revs at lower speeds and let off the gas.

I have a 992.1 Feb 24 production. 911S with PSE. There are no pops or bangs in sport mode. Also have Chrono.

Pops and bangs are plentiful with meth injection.

It is very audible when you get off the throttle at 4k RPM.

How many miles? I felt like my cats had to 'burn in' a bit and the crackles got a lot louder after 2k miles.

I'm 60 so to me the stock sport system is like porridge. It's has enough pops decelerating in sport mode.

The pops are a bit ridiculous IMO. I can't stand what the BMW people do to their exhausts so anything that comes close to it I want to stay away from.

If they are there for performance reasons, fine. But to just make noise it is ridiculous.

I'm with you. I actually hate them. I remember initially driving a 992 at PECLA; I heard them for the first time on the track and honestly thought something was wrong with the car.

Funny that the Porsche documentation calls it backfire on the chart of the different driving modes.
