Default Full activation of Matrix LED headlights in CANADA

Does Canada ban the full functionality as the USA does?
The Canadian configurator does mention full capability is not available in the US market which is weird. Are we considered the same market?

Canada has allowed them and it’s under review in the US.

What is happening? My US car doesn’t function fully? What’s the difference? What am I missing out on?!

If you have the full PDLS+ Matrix Headlights, the Matrix part of the equation will not currently work in the US. That functionality is where part of your LED matrix headlamp will dim only a portion of your headlight LEDS to not interfere with on coming traffic. Each individual LED works to give the brightest coverage everywhere, but not to oncoming traffic. It is pretty cool tech.. However not activated in the US, and under review by the DOT.

I have it on mine (bought car off the lot) it is an expensive option (which I would not have spec'd on mine, knowing it could be months, years or never approved for the US market. So for now a bit of a waste of 3K option in the US. The physical headlights do look wicked though...

Here is a graphic explaining, also if you google LED Matrix headlights + Porsche there are a few live videos showing how it works live. Pretty illuminating!

Have any Canadian owners been able to confirm that the LED matrix headlights are fully functional in Canada?

The Porcshe.ca sight is presenting unclear and contradictory information on the topic. In the English section, it has the same text as in the US specifying that feature is disabled for the US market. In the French section, it details the full functionality under that LED matrix option text, however in the blacked out option, it is a translation of the English text that only mentions basic HBA. Confusing...

While Transport Canada have indeed legalized variable distribution headlights back in 2018, other manufacturers such as BMW and Audi have not bothered activating the features for Canadian market cars, choosing the simpler route of giving us the same dumbed down US versions. I have coded the Euro variable light distribution and no glare high beam features on my BMW M4 and it is really amazing. I am really eager to find find out if Porsche have fully enabled them for the Canadian market. I am finalizing speccing my 992TT and don't want to spend 2.5k on headlight that don't offer anything more.

Any insight from Canadian owners would be appreciated.

I am in Canada. I ordered this matrix lighting. I am not sure if it is factory enabled or not. If not, then I will ask the dealer to enable it (when they are performing PDI) when my car arrives in April 2021.

Are dealers even allowed to enable it?

I guess if the feature is legal in Canada and I have paid for it, then I cannot see why the dealer cannot do this. Otherwise, I am going to be really upset and will want my $ back.

Video on high beams in Canada. Looks like a serious documentary.

Disclaimer-not serious, watch if you want to laugh. But it's from Canada.

I think the question is will dealers even have the capability to enable it...?

I pose the question to my sales guy yesterday and he is supposed to check out his lead from Porsche Canada first and then his service foreman. He believes the feature is enabled right from the factory. He will let me know in a day or two.

He told me I am the first customer to ask this feature even though the Panny has this feature for a long while already and no customers had ever asked before whether it is functional or not.

The Porsche "Good to Know" app has separate sections for the USA and for Canada describing the functionality of the high beam with the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) with LED Matrix Headlights. In the Canadian section, it describes the Dynamic high beam as follows: "Depending on the position of other vehicles, the speed and other environmental and traffic conditions, the individual LED segments of the high beam headlights are activated or deactivated. The beam in the relevant area in front of the vehicle is low, the rest remains high. This ensures that the environment is lit to best effect without dazzling other road users. Dynamic high beam is switched on or off between 20 mph (30 kph) and 37 mph (60 kph) according to the navigation data. High beam is also switched from full high beam illumination to low beam when the camera detects street lighting."

It seems to me that given this description that the functionality is enabled from the factory.

Thank you for sharing this. I suspect most people do not inquire about the variable light distribution feature simply because they lack the knowledge or awareness it even exists.

Could you share the link to that Porsche "Good to know" app?
