I am in the process of configuration my 992currently, and curious - do yo guys that have manuals use these as a DD? if yes, any regrets? any other thoughts on the matter? I live just south of LA , and rarely get stuck in really bad traffic ( I work my schedule around it ) .
thanks

I used to DD manuals before buying my M3 in DCT (which I regret). It never bothered me. My 992 will be manual and I plan to DD it. As much as possible with the state being mostly shutdown anyways.

When I drove my two different manuals as a DD (retired now), I lived in Cincinnati and had multiple ways into work and rarely got caught in true stop and go traffic so it was awesome. Since you said you RARELY get stuck in really bad traffic you may want to seriously consider a manual because I really love the 992 MT. But only you can make that call because I would hate to have a manual in LA traffic so think about a) likelihood of changing jobs or the possibility of losing your schedule flexibility. Good luck in your decision, but the PDK is awesome as well so you can't really lose IMO.

I live in Cincinnati (like Russbert used to), I have a 992 C4S with Manual as my daily driver. I travel(ed) a lot, so not only daily stuff, but airport weekly, etc. Love it and look forward to driving my Manuals whenever I can. (I also have a Jeep Rubicon Manual).
As stated if I were in LA, Huston, Chicago or anywhere that the traffic is always at a standstill during rush hour, I would probably opt for a PDK as smooth and easy as the 911 MT is on the 992, it might get old day in and day out with heavy traffic, etc.
Since I am typically traveling most weeks (pre-covid), I usually only drive 8-10K miles per year, mostly airport and back during the weekdays and zipping around with errands, sporting events, etc on the weekdends, and as russbert mentioned, I have several routes I can go to avoid most traffic congestion (and it is usually really early on my way to the airport). Weekends I am not in a hurry and even if traffic is heavy, not taxing having a manual for that use.
I will say, since I moved from my recently Daily in a Merc S63 which grew horribly boring (even though a really great car). I am glad to be back in a 911 and Manual for my DD - much more fun and look much more forward to running around in it. My kids are also older now, so do not frequently need anything more than 2 seats or in a crisis maybe one in the back of the 911 albeit cramped for whomever draws that short straw. So easy to make it work.

I'm in the OC and have just taken delivery of a manual 992, it's my daily. I also lived with a manual 997 for 5 years in the middle of Melbourne, Australia and also commuted in that. Traffic in Melbourne is not unlike LA to be frank, the distances just aren't as long and peak 'hour' is shorter.
Its perfectly fine as a daily so long as you're an experienced manual driver, as in if you have to think about it to much then probably not the best choice. For me it's how I learnt to drive 40+ years ago so I really don't have to, and the auto-blip makes it even easier. Having said that of course right now traffic isn't as bad as it can get and I'm mainly working from home.
Hope this helps.

i find it easier to drive a manual in traffic because you can coast or put it in neutral .. where as with an automatic you actually have more foot movement because you're always on and off the brake

The 992 MT (heck, any of the modern Porsche MT with rev matching and all the bells and whistles that make almost impossible to stall) are very easy to live with day-to-day as a daily commuter.
If you're a manual-fanatic, go for it.

I will DD my 992 C2S. Then again, at 48, I have been driving manuals since the age of 15. So, its second nature to me and autos bore me terribly.

Actually, I prefer a manual in stop and go. I find it easier than riding the brake and then the gas with one foot. I am probably in the minority on that one.
I had a 135i with a MT for my daily, and when I moved to DC, went to a 335is with DCT because I thought it would be better in heavy traffic. I really didn’t like it, so went to a Cayman with a MT. I found it to be better for me.

I get this question all the time. It just becomes second nature. Traffic or no traffic it really doesn’t matter.
Now, if we start talking about pre-60’s vintage stuff without synchros, especially vintage pickup trucks, those can get annoying. But I am sure one can get used to that as well.
